Will 'Best' Be Best?
So it seems there's a contest for "Best Media/Journalist Blog," and we're in the lead, with Mark Steyn and Michelle Malkin a close second and third, and 12 also-rans way behind. It would be tacky for us to campaign for the award, but for information purposes only, we would like to point out that anyone can vote, and you can actually vote more than once, if you wait 24 hours between votes. You can click here, here or here to see the results and cast a vote. May the best blogger win.

I know there are some other FReeper bloggers in the running for this vote of the best blog. Those considerations weighing heavily in how I should vote, I still have to cast my vote for James Taranto, Best of the Web Today He is so far ahead of the curve. And while I guess technically his is a blog, I always thought calling Best of the Web Today a blog was beneath it. A column seems more fitting. An insightful daily news review seems more fitting. Dang, if you are missing this one on a daily basis, well, you don't know what you are missing.

Okay, so there is my vote and my "This one needs FReeped" alert. For Tatanto's blog and to vote, Click here.

Isn't FreeRepublic a blog? One of the originals?

I love Taranto's stuff, but FR shook the nation this year with the work of Buckhead and others.

FR is a forum. A blog is one person writing and posting about current events to their web page. FR could only be considered a blog if one FReeper took the sum of their comments posted to FR and collected them in a single web page somewhere.

Of course, some people's page would consist of nothing more than "That's already been posted elsewhere" and that would not count as a blog but rather as a naglog.

Thanks for letting me know about Taranto's page in the WSJ. I've seen it from time to time and read his articles here at FR. I'll visit regularly now.

But I've got to vote for Mark Steyn. No one else combines journalism with insight with humor as effectively as he does.

That's how I dream I could write.
