Report: Officer Shoots Partner During Pit Bull Attack Pit Bulls Remain At Large
POSTED: 6:20 PM EST December 2, 2004 UPDATED: 6:48 PM EST December 2, 2004
An officer accidentally shot his partner while attempting to fight off two pit bulls, witnesses told Local 4.
Detroit police responded to a vicious dog call in the 8800 block of Trinity at about 3:30 p.m. on Thursday.
Evelyn Parker, 77, showed Local 4 a bite wound she received from one of the dogs.
"They came from the front of my car and the white one ran behind me and bit me and the brown one was in front of me and I was trying to keep him away with my cane," Parker said.
Anita Briantley, who lives in the neighborhood, said when police arrived at the scene, one of the dogs attacked an officer.
"I seen the brown dog charge the officer and the officer was shooting him," Briantley said.
Another neighbor, Darlene Smith, explained how the officer apparently shot his partner.
"They bit the officer on the hand. He went down because the dog lunged at him," Smith said. "The brown one my neighbor next door said it got (the officer) on the back of his leg as he went down and he was firing his gun and somehow he shot the other officer."
The gunshot struck the officer's partner in the knee. The injured officer was being treated, Local 4 reported.
..
Just Damn!
Gunsite, anyone?
The dog bit and LET GO?
Ouch. The only way to take out a dog is with OO and a head shot at that. What is this two shot now?
..
I good solid punt will do in a Rott, I found out the hard way.
How about one of those electrical charged batons, ones with a punch of 1000KV+ :D
The way I read it, one cop got bit and shot the other in the knee. One got bit, the other got shot. The perp-bulls escaped.
Dogs 1...Humans 0
I know it's so Baaaad for me to be laughing, shame on me!
I feel sorry for the officer that got shot, but I could just see a Keystone Cops video being made as we read...
If she was allowed the PRIVILEGEOf owning a gun she could have shot the dogs or at least scared them away with the loud shots long enough to escape then she would not have been bitten, the officer would not have been bitten and the other cop would not have got shot But no she isnt relatedto the king of detriot or any of his close minions on the city council so she was forced by unconstitutional law to resort to tryingot keep two angry pit bulls away from her with a freaking cane
Laser sights anyone???.....
Now that's funny!
"or at least scared them away . . ."
helping the old lady and these 2 police officers - - -
but these vicious dogs would have attacked someone else, like a child waiting for the school bus . . .
the police were right trying to contain them.
We were attacked by a huge Rottweiler and pit bull, running in pack. My husband shot the Rott in the shoulder, which stopped his attack but did not kill him. (We have a $350 vet bill, thinking someone owned the dog would appreciate its treatment). The pit bull ran off. My husband said in retrospect, he should have shot the pit bull instead; but it would have been harder to hit, even tho he is a great shot; and the Rott was turned on him.
I told him it was a good thing the dogs came here instead of attacking kids at the bus stop; and at least he broke up the pack. The pit bull was never found; and no owners either.
Policeman's partner was attacking a pitbull, so he shot him?
I was thinking the same thing. On the other hand, if the dog has his teeth in your leg it's probably going to shock you as much, and if you fall down around a pit bull your are a goner.
