GRAND ISLAND, N.Y. (AP) - An elementary school bus driver was fired after sharing a statistic she had read about embryonic stem cell research with students, then encouraging them to tell their parents about it.

This is an absurd comparison you're making.
Teachers have far more authority over students,
and far more influence, and spend far more time
with them than bus drivers. Don't give these liberal
jerks cover.

"bankrupting the local school system ..."

Yes, damned right. Let's start getting serious.

Those who believe that embryonic stem cells hold more promise than stem cells from placenta are likely adherents to the debunked junk science of evolution.

Glad you agree. I would love to see the public school system in this country choked out of existence. Bulldoze it and start over.

If my child's school bus driver told him abortion was good, my son would know that it wasn't. I wouldn't complain to the school district about it. That would be hypocritical to stop free speech because I disagreed with it. I value the opinions of others, even when I don't agree with them.

I do believe that the strong reaction to this case is directly related to the FACT that conservatives' children are regularly indoctrinated by liberal instructors and NONE of those instructors are being fired for it.

Here's a thought for all of the parents out there: Who has more power over your child's safety? Their teacher or the person that drives their bus? When a teacher makes a wrong turn, little Johnny can't add 2+2, but a wrong turn by a driver can put him in the ICU.

Mrs Mayor - I am prolife but I consider it my duty and prerogative to explain to my children about such horrors as abortion and embryonic stem cell research. And alas, it is also the prerogative of parents who support such abominations.
I pray that the children learn the truth somewhere along the way.

And for goodness sake, find a better scientific authority than Mel Gibson. If 300,000 conditions had been cured by adult stem cells we would live forever.

Mrs VS

they didn't want to get into a "difficult" debate that they might lose?

I think you are right on!

The message, no matter how right it is, is irrelevant here. School buses shouldn't be used as indoctrination centers by either side, even if it is the wife of a FReeper.

Everything is a political issue in their eyes, that's what makes me crazy.
We can no longer have a discussion it's a political thing.
That's OK with me, bring it on !

No, she was stating something spouted off by Mel Gibson, hardly a bastion of biological knowledge.

Why the rush to an emotionally charged "appeal to authority" falacy? Shirley you know the validity of the statemnt is independent of who "spouted" it "off". (And YES, I just called you "Shirley". ha ha ha).

They say that but it is not written any where or was ever said to my wife..

Also she is a bus driver not a teacher.
Why Ramming is involved in this is beyond me.

I hate to say it but...maybe that is why she is a BUS DRIVER.

All I have to say to you is do a little more reading and to let you know, My wife is an Architectural Designer and there is NO work in western New York. That is why she is a bus driver..

if you had a child riding a school bus and the driver was "sharing" liberal/left wing stuff (for instance, pro-abortion or F911 conspiracy-theory material), what would you think?

Depends if it was propaganda, opinion, or fact. If it was a simple fact, and relevant to the conversation, I wouldn't object, even if it was "inconvenient" from my perspective.

When did facts become indoctrination?

If you believe that, you're a strange and silly little man!
