GRAND ISLAND, N.Y. (AP) - An elementary school bus driver was fired after sharing a statistic she had read about embryonic stem cell research with students, then encouraging them to tell their parents about it.

It's not indoctrination when it's true. The bus driver was attempting to set some of the more poorly educated children free from the bondage of wrong thinking. She was fired for her troubles, when she should have been commended and awarded a medal.
I think I've shown remarkable restraint and tolerance whilst watching you exercise your freedom. It has been extraordinarily painful, but I anticipate a full recovery.
The whole trouble with medals is that you cannot eat them for dinner. However, that pay check she was receiving driving the bus could put some food on the table.
I'd prefer to see the second outcome. Then a local group of like minded evangelicals awards the heroic driver with a grand medal. Don't you see? It's perfect. She'll be able to buy food using monies from the settlement, and proudly display the medal for all to see.
There are no statisitics for how often people get fired for such things. But when they do it's always a conservative. Sorry. There is no way she could possibly have known with any certainty. My orginal comment still stands.
Let me see if I follow the implied logic. MrsMayor was either being preachy, or the only possible alternative is ridiculous, mocking, and highly detailed scenario you suggest.
May I humbly suggest there may be other possibilities. For instance perhaps she is friendly and sometimes talks to some of the kids, and once in a while a subject like this comes up.
A responsible bus driver would say that abortion was something the child should discuss with her family, and go back to driving the bus.
This response sounds fairly reasonable, although there may be some in Planned Parenthood who would disagree, so perhaps we will reach the point where the responsible bus driver would say such things must only be discussed with the government sanctioned sex education counselor.
I don't waste time on things that have absolutely nothing to do with my job description
My own job description says nothing about calling 911 if somebody at my work is having a heart attack. So now I know I should just let them die, thank you for the broad moral clarification. Such would be very welcome in a faceless dehumanized sterile bureaucracy.
How noble of you.
Pray tell what damage has been done to those children?
Your hysterical and shrill reaction to this, far out weighs the degree of the offense.
Whether or not a certain branch of medical research holds promise or not should not be a divisive issue. To the extent that some folks insist that it should be, they have their own divisive agenda, which Ms Mayor appears, quite rightly, to have ignored.
If this is the first offense, I'd say firing is rather harsh. A simple "Drive the bus and don't share your views" would have been sufficient. (Of course, I think school boards should also be telling teachers, "Teach the math, don't share your views.")
It's been picked up by CNN..

What damage? Well I'll tell you...they might think that fetal stem cell research is not a promising as its supposed to be. They might even think...oh my...they might actualy think!
Whether or not AndyTheBear is redundant or not...
But it wasn't a view. It was a fact that those who are promoting a view want to suppress. It would have to be drive the bus and don't say anything that might offend anybody...so don't talk.
It also isn't part of a school bus driver's job to teach about stem cell research. Nevertheless, firing was harsh if this is the first time it's ever happened. A simple, "Don't do that any more" would have been enough.
It is none of your's or anyone else's biz now is it? You will acknowledge that won't you? I do have a constitutional right to raise my kid the way I see fit now don't I? Do you even know what the constitution is?
You are what is known as a "busybody" and a "do gooder". All other concerns take second place to your spewing of the "truth."
Says who" YOU?
On a internet bulletin board where you can be an anonymous hero?
LOL!
Get lost.
It is everyone's job to be human. And it is dehumanizing for educators who would indoctrinate children to terrorize bus drivers who would educate them.
Can't say that I blame you, public schools have become horribly politically correct. Your probably safer not even talking to the kids. And be sure to only use the water fountain labeled "bus drivers".
