GRAND ISLAND, N.Y. (AP) - An elementary school bus driver was fired after sharing a statistic she had read about embryonic stem cell research with students, then encouraging them to tell their parents about it.

Disrupting a family? Dear lady, reserve your sensitivity for the children of families who get bombarded by bizarre lessons planned by brainwashed teachers and approved by frightened administators every day at the place called "a school" and then children parked in front of boob tubes!
Sustain and show support for that citizen who dares to voice her politically incorrect opinions in the face of the obsessed PC crowd who clutch our children in their grips for some many years of their lives.
The notion that elementary-age children approached her to ask about stem cells is, frankly, not especially plausible. If she was a classroom teacher, she might make it fly. As the substitute bus driver, she's toast, and you can bank on that. Sorry to disappoint, but this is going nowhere.
Sorry, but I think your wife's actions were totally inappropriate in her job description, and her firing was justifiable.
"Or would you prefer all issues discussed on the school bus be approved by eleni121?"
Oh how you tempt me. ;>)
"Would it be okay for a Muslim School Bus Driver to convert kids..."
How did religion get into this? Fetal stem cell research is hardly a religious issue. Had the driver (or the cafeteria lady or nurse) started in with Buddhist chanting (no matter how lovely the voice), I would assume that the authorities/parents/kids especially would disapprove and quickly dispatch the offender.
As for F/911- I confess it sounds familiar (the 9-11 part) but I am unfamiliar with the F part...enlighten me please!
From what I read, the kids ranged in age from 1st to 6th...let's say your son is in first grade...if he heard "stem" he would think flower...and "cell"...he might think phone...but stem cell...to a 12 year old mght make a lot of sense.
If so would you support a driver telling kids that Abortion was a good thing or that the War in Iraq is not good?
Yes, I have great concern for those children. I have so much concern, in fact, that I have spent 2 years (one to go) and many thousands of dollars to become a teacher to those children. It infuriates me when I see idiot teachers spouting nonsense to children and I see it often.
It is wrong to teach children things which place them in opposition to their parents. No matter which side you are on.
He's in the fourth grade, actually, and stem cells just don't come up in casual conversation when you're ten.
I would like to know how this woman had the time to talk to her bus riders about anything at all. If she were doing the job she was paid to do, she should be watching traffic, concentrating on her driving and seeing that children were getting off at the right stop safely.
And there in lies the problem. Issues are raised in the classroom all the time, from the Liberal perspective and almost always inappropriately. Either it's wrong for everyone, including most teachers (except for perhaps history and political science teachers and even then both sides of the issue should be taught an discussed), or it's okay for everyone. Teachers are not paid to indoctrinate children either (yet they do); they are paid to teach.
"See, it isn't about educating children. It isn't about supporting parents or families. It's about revenge." (Dianna)
It isn't about revenge, it's about balance and equal time.
Until I begin to see teachers and people on the left reprimanded and or fired for indoctrinating our children, or inappropriately raising political topics which have nothing to do with the subjects they teach, I will refrain from criticizing people on the right when they engage in the same behavior. It' always someone on the right who gets fired for espousing a conservative position. Either it's wrong for everyone or it's wrong for no one.
However, I do agree with general_re that the topic is too complex for elementary age school children, especially those under 12. The children on the bus according to the article were in grades two to five. In response to another comment you made, general_re, the article doesn't say the children brought up the topic, but that they were RECEPTIVE to it.
If her superiors thought it was inappropriate and or against the rules, a simple reprimand, or warning would have been the fair way to resolve this (given the level of the "offense"), particularly since for two and a half years, she had a perfect record.
Your accusation is warped and twisted. How could Mrs. Mayor possibly have known, when she introduced the topic to the children on the bus, that events would unfold thusly, eventually affording her airtime and media coverage?
I found their phone number and called them to find out what statute they used to stop it. The man said they used Education Code 26.010.
Their phone number is (972) 423-3131. They are in the Dallas, TX area.
Bears repeating, thanks. Blackbird.
LOL
dittos.
Your rant shows you possess little or no self control. If you have children and are not teaching them the truth about the universe, then I hope someone steps forward to do it for you.
When I was a kid, if Mike the Busdriver said it, there was NO debate, it was the truth and no one argued, let me tell you. :P
