An immigration reform organization is concerned that the man President Bush has tapped to be the next U.S. attorney general has been involved with an organization that opposes the enforcement of immigration laws.
The pro-life community has already expressed its concerns about White House counsel Alberto Gonzales, noting that while a Texas Supreme Court justice he chose not to rule against abortion, in any situation. Now the Washington, DC-based Federation for American Immigration Reform (FAIR) is calling Gonzales to task for his reported involvement with the National Council of La Raza, which has endorsed his nomination for attorney general.
FAIR spokeswoman Susan Tully says La Raza unabashedly supports rights for illegal aliens. "When you're talking about the attorney general of the United States, he would be considered the 'top cop' [for the country]," Tully explains. "And if his leanings and bias are sympathetic to illegal alien lawbreakers, that should be a huge concern to those of us who believe in law and order -- and that those laws are there for a reason."
And Tully points out that the phrase "la raza" means "the race" for a reason. "To take it in context, would you be concerned if there a white nominee who had been involved with the Ku Klux Klan or some other white supremacist-type of group?" she asks.
Tully says if a former Klansman had been nominated to the nation's highest law-enforcement position, there would be no end to the media outrage, demanding that such an individual could not possibly be the attorney general. "Yet there is no outrage at all that [Gonzales] has belonged in the past and been involved in that organization [La Raza]," she notes.
In 2001, Gonzales was asked if his own personal feelings about abortion would play a role in his decisions. He responded: "The question is, what is the law, what is the precedent, what is binding in rendering your decision. Sometimes, interpreting a statute, you may have to uphold a statute that you may find personally offensive."
If confirmed as the new AG, Gonzales would have an opportunity to apply that same philosophy to the issue of illegal immigration.
Perhaps I missed it, but I can't seem to find on this thread, or in the article, and elucidation of just what Gonzales' ties to La Raza are or were, and when. Odd, this never came up before until now.
And with about 80% of the country against amnesty.
Take your party blinders off. If Gonzalez was a democrat you'd see the beef and be having a cow.
Can you imagine these corrupt politicos, completely ignoring the entire damn country?
LOL! It's really beyond belief.

FROM POST #1
National Council of La Raza: News: NCLR WELCOMES NOMINATION OF ...
Murguia also noted Gonzales ties to the Hispanic community throughout his career. "Alberto Gonzales served with distinction on the board of directors of one of NCLRs oldest and most respected affiliates, the Association for the Advancement of Mexican Americans (AAMA) in Houston, Texas. Moreover, during his tenure as White House Counsel, he has been one of the most accessible members of the White House staff to NCLR and other Hispanic organizations," added Murguia.
LOL! That would make someone a good tag line.
Know what kills me? If Clinton were spending like this administration and revealing plans for amnesty for millions of these criminals, the party before country frauds would be screaming the loudest. Hehe.
And you know what? Everyone knows this is true! Even the frauds know it! LOL!
La Raza is like another Mexican gang and we have plenty of those around here. I don't like this either.

It wont be pretty.
You Californians always set the trends. The Gray Davis Recall was IMO a defining moment that signaled a new change of attitudes in the electorate. The era of politicians that put money and power above the interests of America are rapidly drawing to a close. Insular politicians that continually ignore the will of the electorate won't last long in this new environment. People are fed up and hadenuf!
Those are exactly my feelings too.
The party lights are dimming, no doubt about it. People are getting a belly full of this government sponsored nightmare.
Take your party blinders off. If Gonzalez was a democrat you'd see the beef and be having a cow.I beg your pardon? I'll REPOST THE ONLY THING I saw in the article that refers to this allegation:
Now the Washington, DC-based Federation for American Immigration Reform (FAIR) is calling Gonzales to task for his reported involvement with the National Council of La Raza, which has endorsed his nomination for attorney general.
Now, can you please point out PROOF in that statement? "Reported involvement", and they stop right there. No more detail that I saw.
He said take your party blinders off.
No need to beg. Your wearing your party button on your tag line.
And you KNOW what they would be screaming for.
And you know what? Everyone knows this is true! Even the frauds know it! LOL!
What's that saying when you lie down with the dogs?
Well, if you scroll up to Ed Current's series of links at the top of the page you will find a La Raza link that has the following excerpt:
"Murguia also noted Gonzales ties to the Hispanic community throughout his career."Alberto Gonzales served with distinction on the board of directors of one of NCLRs oldest and most respected affiliates, the Association for the Advancement of Mexican Americans (AAMA) in Houston, Texas.
Do you think Gonzalez may have ties with La Raza?
I vote straight party GOP, that's right. Thanks.Did you really fail anger management? Just kiddin'. :^)
Well, if this is so, looks like it may be time to dust off some of my CFR emails to Bush and substitute La Raza and Gonzales for CFR. :^(

White House Counsel Alberto Gonzales, President Bush's nominee for attorney general, got the backing of a group that promotes driver's licenses for illegal aliens, no immigration law enforcement by local and state police and amnesty programs broader than the administration's proposal.
The National Council of La Raza, which bills itself as the largest national Hispanic civil rights and advocacy organization in the U.S., welcomed the nomination of Gonzales to succeed John Ashcroft.
"We are very encouraged by the Gonzales nomination," said the glowing endorsement by La Raza. "We previously criticized the Bush administration for not having an Hispanic in the cabinet since the departure of former HUD Secretary, now Senator-elect, Mel Martinez. We are pleased that one of the first acts since the presidents re-election both rectifies that situation and marks an historic milestone for the Latino community. Never before has a Hispanic served as head of one of the four major Cabinet posts secretary of State, Treasury, Defense and attorney general," said Janet Murguia, NCLR executive director and chief operating officer.
But it wasn't just the historical breakthrough that thrilled La Raza. It was also the fact that he is one of their own.
"Alberto Gonzales served with distinction on the board of directors of one of NCLRs oldest and most respected affiliates, the Association for the Advancement of Mexican Americans in Houston, Texas," she said. "Moreover, during his tenure as White House counsel, he has been one of the most accessible members of the White House staff to NCLR and other Hispanic organizations."
Murguia concluded, "We acknowledge that this is the first step of a long confirmation process that requires that his record be fully examined. That being said, Gonzales is a thoughtful, reasonable public servant, a man of his word, and we have every expectation that his nomination will be very well received in the Latino community."
La Raza supports legislation such as the Civil Liberties Restoration Act, which would roll back policies adopted after Sept. 11 designed to protect national security. It supports the "DREAM Act," which would mandate states to offer in-state tuition rates to illegal aliens thus providing them with benefits not available to U.S. citizens from other states.
The group opposes the "Clear Law Enforcement for Criminal Alien Removal Act of 2003" and the "Homeland Security Enhancement Act" would give state and local police officers the authority to enforce federal immigration laws.
"While the safety and security of our communities and our country are of the utmost importance, new policies that would allow local police departments to enforce federal civil immigration law will hinder terrorist and other criminal investigations, and have a serious negative impact on Latino communities," La Raza explains.
The group also supports legislation to ensure illegal immigrants' ability to obtain driver's licenses.
And the Attorney General of the United States is the nations top law enforcement cop! Who better to make sure that the imigration laws of the nation are (not wholeheartedly or at all) enforced.
"Can you imagine these corrupt politicos, completely ignoring the entire damn country?
LOL! It's really beyond belief.'
Yep, I have lived 50 years, and to my knowledge, no president has ever tried to ram a horrible pledge down the throats of a completely hostile public. I still want to know what Vicente Fox has on Bush:)
Us folks in IL already have our DREAM Act. It's such an honor to be forced to fork over money to these Illegal Aliens to pay for their college bills while AMERICAN CITIZENS that live in other states have to pay through the nose to attend IL colleges.
Hopefully it is going to unbelievable outrages like this that finally wakes up the American People as to the Treason our so-called leaders have engaged themselves in. Orrin Hatch should be one of the first to walk the plank.
