Wow, a principled stand by a Democrat.
Is the $700,000 the cost of the partial recount, or the whole state?
Ping. Game, set and match -- I think.
If there is no re-count, does Gregoire get to keep Kerry's $250,000?
Surprising! Still seems a waste of time and money, but at least its far more honourable than selected recounts.
The whole state. And that's just the down payment. A full recount is expected to cost $1.5 million if it goes all the way.
Ahem...how about counting all LEGAL votes in the state.
No, she has to return Kerry's money. Besides, what Kerry offered was a pledge for that money, not an actual check or wire transfer.
Boy, Kerry's a cheapskake. He has a couple million in the bank and all he's going to kick in is a measly $250 thou? Sheesh.
...and offered to windsurf Puget Sound as a means of providing publicity.
BTW, that's $250,000 that the Kerry campaign DIDN'T spend in Ohio.
I just heard yesterday evening that she and her party were just going to recount King County, her stronghold. And that's just plain wrong.
"is the $700,000 the cost of the partial recount, or the whole state?"
whole state
If they only counted the legal votes, they wouldn't have a chance. No sport in that.
If were Kerry I would immediately give the 250K and offer the other 500K with the understanding that contibutions come back into my coffers. Then I would organize rallies with Hillary! and the other libs.
With only a 42 vote margin, I would think a recount is appropriate.
Under WA law, there must be a statewide recount if a selective recount of just one county changes the certified result.
I think she is reacting to the hostile sentiment in the usually compliant Seattle press, to include the TV stations who have run polls showing that most people want her to concede. This may be her way of saying tomorrow that she wanted to recount the state but couldn't raise the cash.
Not so fast. I called yesterday and pledged an amount equal to whatever Kerry actually gives them... so that should put them pretty close...
Now, they just have to figure out who this Harold A. Howle guy is who pledged all that money...
I would think that eliminating all the enhanced and fraudulent votes would be even more appropriate.
