LIMA, Peru — The Inter-American Court of Human Rights has upheld the conviction of Lori Berenson, a New York native imprisoned in Peru for terrorist collaboration with Marxist guerrillas, President Alejandro Toledo confirmed Thursday.

In an interview with Radioprogramas radio, when asked to comment on news reports of the ruling, Toledo said the court members "have ratified the sentence and I once again salute the court members. It is undoubtedly a great satisfaction and tranquility for Peruvian justice and all Peruvians."

Phone calls to Berenson's family in New York City were not answered, and no spokesman for Peru's court system was available to confirm the news reports. Jose Luis Sandoval, Berenson's lawyer in Peru, told The Associated Press that Berenson's legal team had received no notification from the court.

The court debated Berenson's appeal Nov. 24-25. Sandoval said the court was expected to notify her family and the Peruvian government on Thursday.

Berenson, 35, a Massachusetts Institute of Technology dropout, has spent nine years in Peruvian prisons in a case that has wended through Peru's legal system twice so far.

They should add 10 years to her sentence just for the additional hassle and expense that she has put the system through.

Odd isn't it?

A country that has to deal with marxist guerrilas lacks leftist judges on the Bench....

Yeah. With all that's going on in the world, it's nice to see one foreign government doing the right thing in one area.

Personally, I see it a little differently.

Come from Abroad, participate in attempted overthrow of the government, they should just deport her.

In a body bag.

This is my favorite line from the article: Burned into Peruvians' collective memory is her public declaration in January 1997, when she angrily shouted, "There are no criminal terrorists in the MRTA. It is a revolutionary movement."

Can we tack on an additional 20 years for stupidity?

Well, she consorted with, aided and abetted terrorists, got caught, tried and convicted, and sentenced in a country that does not mess around with amnesties for the politically correst. One would like to be sympathetic, as a parent, to her parents who have essentially lost a daughter, but their unrelieved leftist cant precludes much sympathy. If I recall correctly, she turned down an offer to server her sentence out here in the US, knowing she'd serve the whole time, and hoping she'd find a way to get out down in Peru through international pressure.

I wonder if she ever had this thought:

"Mommy, this isn't fun anymore! I wanna go home!././././.

The Inter-American Court of Human Rights has upheld the conviction of Lori Berenson

Even this liberal court had to tell the truth about "activist" [terrorist in leftist parlance] Berenson.

She enjoyed the romantic life of servicing guerrilla men. I hope she enjoys her prison stay and the Peruvian jail guards.

The Inter-American Court of Human Rights

Probably the first time a group with "human rights" in its name has done something positive.

Left-wing unapolegetic terrorist. Let her rot in jail until she dies. The Left paints her as some hero of the poor for running guns and etc. to the Maoists. To hell with her.
