Even if you aren't one of the state's estimated 100,000 medicinal marijuana users, a dope dispensary could be coming to a corner near you.
Just ask the very surprised resident of San Francisco's tony Pacific Heights neighborhood who phoned us the other day after stumbling across a recently sprouted pot club on Vallejo Street, with its blinds drawn and a freshly painted phone number on the awning.
"I have two kids,'' said Angela Weber. "When we walked by the place, it just reeked of dope.
"Neighbors are furious because it is essentially a residential area, and their property values are going to go down the drain if they are living across the street from a marijuana cafe,'' she said.
According to a Web site posted by the pot legalization organization Cal NORML, nearly two dozen clubs have sprung up around San Francisco since California voters gave the thumbs up to medical marijuana eight years ago.
Statewide, Cal NORMAL shows listings for no fewer than 126 clubs and "support groups." Although the majority of them are in liberal coastal communities, several have popped up inland from Sacramento to Merced to Bakersfield.
And as long as medical marijuana remains quasi-legal in California -- and as long as there's a healthy profit to be made from dispensing it -- clubs will continue to set up shop, said Allen St. Pierre, executive director of the NORML Foundation in Washington, D.C.

Yeah baby!
You know, marijuana is a gateway drug, and can lead to more serious addictions, such as smoking cigarettes.
San Francisco (aka Sodom) is always the first to openly embrace depravity.
Apparently so. I smoked pot before I started smoking cigarettes. Oddly enough I never did cocaine, crack, heroin, or any of the other drugs pot was sure to lead me to.
These days I get high on life. Unfortunately I'm building up an immunity.
It can also lead to dancing, I understand.
Next comes the cravings for jazz music. Just wait and see.
And laughter.
Oh the humanity!
Some might consider it depraved to deprive an ill individual the plant life that provides them some measure of relief.
LOL. I remember reading an interview with Steve Earle, who went to jail for drug related offenses, talking about life in Nashville. He liked hanging around with the bluegrass guys, 'cuz they were the only ones who had pot.
Those bluegrass guys, always the first to accept and openly promote depravity. Oh, wait.
So what? Marijuana should be legalized, and its sale should be taxed. Just like homemade wine, marijuana grown at home should be left alone, as long as it's not being sold in violation of the taxes or regulations.
Not to mention the craving for double-fudge brownies. Maybe the anti-pot people can team up with the anti-obesity people for a double whammy.
I believe George Carlin(?) said about marijuana use: "it'll curve your spine, infect your soul, and keep the country from winning the war" A gateway drug? It's about time marijuana was legalized, regulated, and of course taxed like alcohol.Ask a police officer(on the street) what the biggest problem drugs are and he(or she) will tell you crack, meth, and of course alcohol.
I ate cheese prior to smoking marijuana ("in college"). Cheese is a gateway drug!
Or Drinking milk. No, it is the other way around...Mothers Milk leads to Heroin...no wait...I forgot...
Bring me the head of Alfredo Garcia!
Ah! Now all that cheesehead business makes sense.
