COEUR D'ALENE, Idaho - Two men have been arrested for dumping dirt in a national forest. The Kootenai County Sheriff's Department said the men, who have not been publicly identified, were arrested at a garage in Coeur d'Alene where the dirt had been removed and the base apparently prepared for paving.
Deputy Robert Gomez said the U.S. Forest Service confirmed that it was illegal to dump anything, including dirt, on the federal land.
Gomez said he asked the two men about dumping dirt in the national forest "and they went off on a tirade about Mother Earth."
The deputy quoted the pair as saying they had taken "perfectly good dirt" from the garage area and dumped it under a big fir tree where they used rakes to spread the soil to make it look nice.
"They both said it was a good job having given back the dirt to Mother Earth," Gomez said.

When I pulled into the wooded parking area, there was a sign that said "$500 fine for releasing wild animals in this preserve."
I dumped him anyway and drove off. It was a beautiful new home for the little fellow, as opposed to dumping in a highway rest area. I'm sure he appreciated my lawlessness. I'm a rebel.
Hey, public servants! Just fine 'em on the technical points of the law and get on with some real work. Geez - what a bunch of wankers.
They could have made several hundred bucks off of it around here.
LOL!
the PETA/ELF/A:F/ASPCA terrorist network is rampant in the US Forest Service and the Park Service.
Mostly a bunch of ignorant eco-terrorists.
You are right but this time it sounds like they arrested two of their own.
Either the County is starving for money or the prosecuter is living next to a hemmiroid.
OH, NOOOOOOO!!! Here we go, again.
Probably dirt toxically polluted from their garage meth lab.
That's funny... or sad... I'm not sure.

"Whadda ya in for?"
"Got busted dumpin' a opossum."
"WHAT?"
"and resisting arrest."
"OH, THAT'S BETTER"
If this dirt came from the FLOOR OF A GARAGE, then it may very well have been soaked with motor oil, hydraulic fluids, and solvents. These guys weren't so much caring for Mother Earth as they were evading EPA-mandated rules that require user fees on waste disposal, and which also impose HEFTY FINES for illegally dumping contaminated material.
Except if it was a female and you separated it from its litter...
Could have been much worse. Had it been a skunk you would have been faced with two unplesant choices.
Leave it in the trap to die or release it.
Either choice stinks.
Sell the National Forests or give them to the States, and close down the Forest Service!
