Republicans have an opportunity. Over the next four years, Bush should really try to talk up what he is doing and how it will benefit minorities. He's already pretty good about that, but it needs to be constantly emphasized.

Afghanistan? Millions of women can work, go to school, and vote.
Court appointments? Bush should choose the best person, but if a Black or Hispanic is a good choice, he needs to talk about it (a lot).
Ownership society? How well does social security work for Blacks, with their lower life expectancy? How are Blacks doing in terms of wealth creation and inheritance? Will privatizing social security make a real difference to Blacks?

I don't expect Bush to change his policies, because I think his policies are good. But he really needs to make sure that the heart-and-soul of the Democrat base hears exactly why Republican policies are making life better for people like themselves.

I just do not see this resonating with US minorities. Domestic issues work better.

I think this is the best domestic issue W has. If we can really reform SS, something along the lines of Cato's 6.2% plan, where 6.2% of salary can go into a private fund, we will see an amazing change in the electorate.

In four years the average American will have 25% of a year's salary in his very own account. I don't think the RATs could ever win an election again for 30 years if that came to pass. And think of the wealth in those accounts 30 years from now. We would be truly a nation of capitalists, every last one of us.
