Apart from this story, I agree. In this country, a 14 yr old cannot obtain above table employment. Unless you work for family, it is illegal. It is now illegal to drop out of school. Parents can be severely punished. I know of one family that is facing the prospect of losing their wayward girl to a group home for ditching school. She is 16. Okay, she shouldn't have ditched, but this is ridiculous.
I found out after my dad died, that he dropped out of school after 8th grade to help support the family. Of course education was much different back then (way back then-he'd be 95 if he were still alive), so he was very well educated. He took correspondence courses on everything, and did all the home repairs himself.
Btw, he drove himself and his mother from MA to CA when he was 12.
Choice no longer is an option. You will obey.

Apparently you have realized that you "hath but a short time". What's the matter, couldn't find a deceased person to "know" on your first day? Where's your Christmas cheer? Did you eat the coal in your stocking? Or is TROP the norm in your peace-loving country?

Our streets are full of abandoned young teens. Momma finds a new beau who doesnt want the teen around. Or Momma doesnt want compititon. The kids live in the streets until they are picked up. The city near where I live sets groups of them up in apartments with SW oversight.
And Merry Christmas .....
That may have been true long ago, but children in this day and age are not raised to be self-sufficient at such a young age.
I was fully self sufficient at 15. I think the country would improve if a few more were introduced to the concept at 12 to 15.
