Rather's retirement stories were typical of news about journalism these days -- mini-morality plays laced with allegations of liberal bias and conspiracy theories about whether Rather was forced out for broadcasting an unsubstantiated memo about President Bush's National Guard service.

The Boston Globe seems to imply (by publishing this article) here that they are not in the same category as the CBS so called News.

There's an old coroner's story about how in instances were a number of people are drowning at once, many will be subsequently found with deep gashes and contusions on their head, face, and sholders.
This comes from the victims who, in their panic, will attempt to climb up the other victims in order to save themselves.
This is, in essence, what the Globe is doing. I'm sure they'll end up with their own gashes as well...

No, no, Mr. Canellos. The story was not "unsubstantiated." It was forged. Forged, as in "Can you spell felony?"

um... no .... The headline SHOULD read:
In an era when conservatism is on the upswing... the old Liberal Partisan news anchors have lost touch with the mainstream of America.

From the article...
***Rather's discredited report on special treatment for Bush in the National Guard did not cause skepticism about the media; it became anecdotal confirmation of existing skepticism, fanned by conservative media critics and, perhaps, by people of many political stripes who prefer that their news outlets share their world view.***
Double-think at it's finest.

How can a paper be so clueless? Partisan defines the anchor news of the A,B,C Networks. The truth is that citizens of this country have found a way around their bias in the form of the internet. You could also lump major papers in there as well because who needs a single paper for their news when you can get multiple perspectives from the internet. Can't you just see them wishing for the good old days with Uncle Walter? Never mind the fact that we now know he's a flaming liberal that at times borders on lunacy.

A study this year by the nonpartisan Pew Research Center found that Fox was rated as the ''most trusted" source of news for Republicans but among the ''least trusted" by Democrats. And another study found that the Holy Bible was the "most trusted" source of moral guidance for humans, but among the "least trusted" by Satan and his minions.

To cite just three examples, the guy lied in a piece about guns, lied in a piece about Viet Nam vets, lied in a piece about Bush and the National Guard. Any ONE of these fabrications should have been enough to cost a newsman his job. What is sad and unbelievable to me is that he lasted so long and lied so much.
"While most news consumers still express a desire for objectivity, their choices indicate a preference for a more partisan viewpoint." More partisan than CBS? I don't think so. Differently partisan, perhaps. The perception by and about the Legacy Media that it is not partisan is the very reason for its decline!

I hate to burst anybody's bubble, but no News Anchor ever had authority with me.
Can't lose what you never had.
