Iran's supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei said Monday his country would press on with its nuclear programme and was not afraid of pressure from the United States.
"The people and the officials are not scared of the political threats made by the powers in the service of oppression," Khamenei was quoted as saying by state television during a meeting with visiting Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez.
"Iran will never stop its nuclear programme, that is our red line," he said in comments that coincided with Iran's agreement to suspend, but not halt, its controversial work on the nuclear fuel cycle.
Khamenei, who has the final say on all matters of state, said the suspension agreement with Britain, France and Germany -- designed to prevent the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) from referring Iran to the UN Security Council -- "were carried out while respecting this red line".

Freepmail DoctorZin. He'll put you on his ping list.
BTW - I was not ecstatic with the recent protests. They were MEK.
"you may have faith in the EU and the UN,"
None whatsoever.
What Carter did to the Shah and Iran and to us, is unforgiveable.
Don't take the "Nuke 'em all" mentality in a serious way. I would like nothing more than a modern Iraq and Iran. It's like a dream, but a GOOD dream.
Iraq is more strategic for the Arab world but Iran would be a great addition to the G-8.
Fantasy indeed, but good fantasy!
Arioch7 out!
Instead of us having to once again rehabilitate a society after they have called for our death and threatened us over and over, Id like to just end a problem. Im sure MOST Iranians are nice people...gulp..unsure...BUT you have to pay for the society you spawn. They have had a long enough time to change things internally.
The vast majority of Iranians have NOT "called for our death and threatened us over and over"
Yet it would be nice to have our own "Student Revolution" would it not?
Exactly. It is actually starting to give me the creeps in how close it reminds me of the 1930's. The Iranian people, so far, have been unable to oust this evil government, and even though the world SEES the death, and evil that Iran doesn't hesitate to do to innocents all over the world, the world [read EU and the UN] are just going to roll over and play dead. Someday they will regret that they didn't take the bull by the horns. Hell, if Iran loves to sponsor these demons who love to cut off heads of innocents, bomb Israeli kids, etc, then what on earth is Iran going to do with nukes? I guess they'll (EU) hope that IF they made a mistake, AGAIN, the good ol' US of A will make the greatest sacrifice like they did in WWII. They don't give a fig that it is our troops dying.
I'm only 48, and even though I've read a great deal about WWII.......well.......watching this crap with Iran/EU/UN, etc is like watching history come alive to repeat itself once more. My history teacher once said that "we study history to show that man never learns anything by studying history." We laughed, and I thought that was cute. Not anymore, it's sad.
You are an idiot and if we have to deal with a united Muslim population, so be it. They can die in larger numbers.
I think we should let Iran recieve what they want, a nuke, maybe several. We can then build them shopping malls and they can manufacture DRAMs
FF Israel and the US Navy will have a very effective missle shield .Iran will burn to the groud.
