La Raza WELCOMES NOMINATION OF GONZALES TO SERVE AS ATTORNEY GENERAL
La Raza ^ | La Raza

Washington, DC – The National Council of La Raza (NCLR), the largest national Hispanic civil rights and advocacy organization in the U.S., today welcomed President Bush’s nomination of White House Counsel Alberto Gonzales to succeed John Ashcroft as Attorney General. If confirmed, Gonzales would be the first Hispanic ever to serve as Attorney General.

“We are very encouraged by the Gonzales nomination. We previously criticized the Bush Administration for not having an Hispanic in the cabinet since the departure of former HUD Secretary, now Senator-elect, Mel Martinez. We are pleased that one of the first acts since the President’s reelection both rectifies that situation and marks an historic milestone for the Latino community. Never before has an Hispanic served as head of one of the four major cabinet posts – Secretary of State, Treasury, Defense, and Attorney General,” stated Janet Murguia, NCLR Executive Director and COO.

Murguia also noted Gonzales’ ties to the Hispanic community throughout his career. “Alberto Gonzales served with distinction on the board of directors of one of NCLR’s oldest and most respected affiliates, the Association for the Advancement of Mexican Americans (AAMA) in Houston, Texas. Moreover, during his tenure as White House Counsel, he has been one of the most accessible members of the White House staff to NCLR and other Hispanic organizations,” added Murguia.

Murguia concluded, “We acknowledge that this is the first step of a long confirmation process that requires that his record be fully examined. That being said, Gonzales is a thoughtful, reasonable public servant, a man of his word, and we have every expectation that his nomination will be very well received in the Latino community.”

Being from Texas, you have stated the issue correctly. They believe (and teach, that the southern part of Texas is still theirs)

Do not attribute things to me that I did not say; had I wanted to quote Fox, I would have quoted Fox, and credited him.

If you want to begin understanding the apparent lackadaisical attitude toward illegal aliens exhibited by our government, the start of an answer can be found on page 6 of that document.

It may also shed light on Bush's agenda of restructuring Social Security, as well as why he is considering legalizing illegal aliens already in the country.

Igoramus...Gonzales supported the State University's right to set up admission standards according to their own criteria, rather than according to the wishes of the Feds.

Yes and the University's standards discriminate against European-Americans in favor of racists like Alberto Gonzales so it's no mystery why he supported the University's "right."

Oh ya, I can make it in America without racial preferences. Your boy Gonzales can't... so who's the Igoramus?

Was that one of his aliases?

I didn't know that one.

I have his card right here, it still says that he is with the CIA.

He was my guest in my first Radio Show with Right Talk.

"The United States could adopt an “accelerated brain-drain” policy, as Canada and Australia have, admitting a much higher proportion of welleducated, highly skilled immigrants who are already well-off or likely to become so. For any given volume of immigration, such a strategy would have the greatest impact on public budgets, since the richer immigrants would pay more in taxes without consuming proportionately greater benefits. But such a move would mark a radical shift in U.S. policy, reversing a fundamental decision made in 1965 to assign priority to close relatives of U.S. citizens and legal residents"

I found the above from your link a bit arresting. Should the US put an more of an emphasis on moving away from the motto on Statue of Liberty?

In the end, it isn't going to be the Mexicans that save the bacon of aging white people, it will be the Chinese and the Indians. And that's a fact - for the next 50 years, when the Indians and the Chinese are overloaded with the aged, and then well, the life style of the old on this planet overall, is going to take a real big hit. The good news is by that time, I am going to be dead.

There was no restriction on immigration from Mexico into the US until 1964. Until then, the border was open, legally. Isn't that amazing? You see, fashioning good public policy is a rather complex matter. It takes a certain, je ne sai qua.

Did you know that in 1964 Hispanics were less than 5% of America's population? There was in fact very little immigration from Mexico up until then for a variety of reasons such as language barriers, poor transportation forced assimilation and no welfare.

Restrictions on immigration from Mexico were put into place when guest worker plans in effect then were leading to increased immigration from Mexico that could no longer be ignored and U.S. welfare programs started to proliferate. Interesting how those 2 things kind of go together.

You see, fashioning good public policy is a rather complex matter.

I certainly hope you are not characterizing our current pubic policy as "good" though I agree it is complex...in a rat nest kind of manner.

Define "they"...I can guarantee you that "they" does not include the NCLR.

What's the difference between Alberto and any other 'European-American' whose last name isn't Gonzalez?

It isn't whether you support the policy or not, it's whether the policy is illegal or not.

Well now the Hispanic population in the US is 13% or something, and more than half of them can't speak Spanish. It seems to me that the Hispanics are committing cultural suicide. Oh the horror.

But neither the Chinese, the Indians, nor the native born will cook the bacon, serve it, clean the dishes, and give sponge baths to the old farts.

No, but they make handkerchiefs that are sold a Walmart, and at an amazingly low price, at least to me. And that is what is important. Who is going to produce the goods, that old white people can buy with their 401K money? By the way, it is the those from the Philippines that care for demented old white people mostly, not the Mexicans. They do so for my mother, and do so very well. Odd, how these things play out.

That something is something north of 15%...and rising quick.

Not to worry Torie, the other 4/5th of Mexico's population are still in Mexico waiting to come to America. Maybe Bush can help them out.

One can plainly see this discrimination of European-Americans in the fact that European-Americans make up 83% of the student body at U of M.

It isn't whether you support the policy or not, it's whether the policy is illegal or not.

Since the policy violates the U.S. Constitution I'd say that it's illegal. Not to change the subject, but I'd really like to know if Mexicans, Cubans, etc., would appreciate White boys, like myself, flooding into their nations and receiving Affirmative Action programs and other racial freebies?
