La Raza WELCOMES NOMINATION OF GONZALES TO SERVE AS ATTORNEY GENERAL

Washington, DC The National Council of La Raza (NCLR), the largest national Hispanic civil rights and advocacy organization in the U.S., today welcomed President Bushs nomination of White House Counsel Alberto Gonzales to succeed John Ashcroft as Attorney General. If confirmed, Gonzales would be the first Hispanic ever to serve as Attorney General.
We are very encouraged by the Gonzales nomination. We previously criticized the Bush Administration for not having an Hispanic in the cabinet since the departure of former HUD Secretary, now Senator-elect, Mel Martinez. We are pleased that one of the first acts since the Presidents reelection both rectifies that situation and marks an historic milestone for the Latino community. Never before has an Hispanic served as head of one of the four major cabinet posts Secretary of State, Treasury, Defense, and Attorney General, stated Janet Murguia, NCLR Executive Director and COO.
Murguia also noted Gonzales ties to the Hispanic community throughout his career. Alberto Gonzales served with distinction on the board of directors of one of NCLRs oldest and most respected affiliates, the Association for the Advancement of Mexican Americans (AAMA) in Houston, Texas. Moreover, during his tenure as White House Counsel, he has been one of the most accessible members of the White House staff to NCLR and other Hispanic organizations, added Murguia.
Murguia concluded, We acknowledge that this is the first step of a long confirmation process that requires that his record be fully examined. That being said, Gonzales is a thoughtful, reasonable public servant, a man of his word, and we have every expectation that his nomination will be very well received in the Latino community.

What does what the SCOTUS decided to do in this case have to do with whether Alberto Gonzales is qualified for the job of AG?

BY "La Raza", are you talking about the organization whose presiednt's statement I quoted in post #157?
That's the organization that Alberto Gonzales is affiliated with.
Do you also have concerns with organizations such as The Sons of Italy, Knight of Columbus, Ancient Order of Hibernians , Order of the Sons of Italy, Jewish-American, B'nai B'rith, Hadassah, Jewish Community Center, National Council of Jewish Women, Independent Order of Vikings, Sons of Norway, Polish Roman Catholic Union of America, Sons of Poland, National Polish-American Hall of Fame, Polish American Arts Association, Polish American Congress?

If there is no organization by the name of La Raza, then who are the Los Angeles guys who, dressed in gang attire, carry signs that state "THIS IS ARE LAND" and "LA RAZA"? Are they pretenders? Must be an L.A. thing...

Nope. I don't see or hear any of them claiming that California belongs to them. The La Raza guys do. Nice KO with that response Janet. LOL!!!
Not only that, unlike Mexico and the La Raza types, those organizations do not represent people or countries that have no respect for our laws, our borders and our sovereignty. Nor are those organizations supporting giving drivers licenses to illegal aliens etc.

"The La Raza guys do."The NCLR, the group being discussed in this article as welcoming the Gonzales nomination, has never made such a claim...why don't you get your facts straight before making a further fool of yourself?

Hey Nea, why don't you check your facts before making a fool of yourself by cheering another fool on. The NCLR has made no claims to ownership of any part of the United States, as a matter of fact, they are on public record disavowing any connections with any groups that makes such a claim, and condemning them.

I'll challenge all three of you.
The NCLR is the group being called "La Raza" in this thread, here is their website.
Locate their claim to ownership of California in this website and show it to me.
Go ahead, it shouldn't take three of you to prove me wrong.

The organization being discussed here is the NCLR, not associated with those fools, anyone can make any T shirt saying anything they want to say janet...you should know that.
What you're doing by lumping the NCLR with idiots that belong to M.E.Ch.A. type groups, is the same as lumping members of the National Rifle Association with the morons who wear nazi gear and run around in the woods with guns preparing themselves for a racial war simply because they both use guns.

You do know don't you, maybe you don't or maybe you really don't care that the Alberto Gonzales mentioned above isn't the same Alberto Gonzales that has been nominated to the AG slot?
First the last name spelling in different...
Secondly the Alberto Gonzales mentioned above is Special Assistant to Attorney General Lockyer of CA. That is why the email addy is doj.ca...
Nice try.

President Bush (news - web sites) on Monday chose Carlos Gutierrez, chief executive officer of the Kellogg Co., to be secretary of Commerce, administration officials said.
If confirmed by the Senate, Gutierrez would succeed Commerce Secretary Donald Evans, a Texas confidant of Bush's, who announced his resignation shortly after the Nov. 2 election.
Gutierrez, whose family fled Cuba in 1960 when he was 6, joined Kellogg in 1975. Known for having a strong work ethic and a seemingly endless stream of ideas, he worked all over the world for the company before being promoted to president and chief operating officer in June 1998.
Last year, Gutierrez received about $7.4 million in total compensation, including salary, bonus and incentive payments, according to a Kellogg proxy statement. He owns or has option rights to 2 million shares of company stock.

Neo-Nazi Leads Recruitment Drive For New Border Militia
Phoenix, AZ, September 10, 2004
The Anti-Defamation League (ADL) confirmed that a self-admitted neo-Nazi is leading a recruiting effort for armed volunteers to join a new "Arizona Guard" militia to patrol the Arizona/Mexico border from a compound in Douglas, AZ.
On its Web site, the "Arizona Guard" proclaims to be "an Organized Militia dedicated to the defense of American Patriotism and to help local ranchers and citizens defend property from illegal alien activity and drug running operations." It asks for volunteers to carry firearms on missions.
"These recent developments validate our warnings that extreme anti-immigrant groups, such as Ranch Rescue, have historically attracted white supremacist and other extremist support," said Bill Straus, ADL Arizona Regional Director. "That, in turn, poses a threat to people living and traveling along our border, including law enforcement. It is a hate-filled and hate-fueled environment. And who better to spread the message of hate than neo-Nazis and white supremacists?"
The recruiting effort is being led by Kalen Riddle, a self-proclaimed Nazi and white supremacist. On his Web site, Riddle, pictured toting a rifle and dressed in a Nazi uniform complete with swastika armbands, claims that two of his favorite things are "ethnic cleansing and weapon making." Riddle's occupation is listed as "National Socialist." In addition Riddle requests that "any WN [White Nationalist] volunteer is asked to keep WP [White Power] or Third Reich imagry (sic) to a minimum and not to talk to any press."
Aiding Riddle is convicted felon Casey Nethercott. Nethercott was arrested in Arizona in March 2004 on a warrant from Texas. Recently, he was given a five-year prison sentence for being a felon in possession of a firearm, and is awaiting trial on charges of allegedly pistol-whipping an undocumented immigrant in Texas in 2003. The former bounty hunter has served time in the past for false imprisonment and assault because he wrongly apprehended the chief of police's son in Riverside, California. In addition to those felony convictions, Nethercott has also been convicted of numerous misdemeanor gun violations.
Both Riddle and Nethercott are members of Ranch Rescue, a border vigilante group documented in ADL's 2003 report, Border Disputes: Armed Vigilantes in Arizona, as an extremist organization that encourages people to take the law into their own hands.

"The recruiting effort is being led by Kalen Riddle, a self-proclaimed Nazi and white supremacist. On his Web site, Riddle, pictured toting a rifle and dressed in a Nazi uniform complete with swastika armbands, claims that two of his favorite things are "ethnic cleansing and weapon making." Riddle's occupation is listed as "National Socialist." In addition Riddle requests that "any WN [White Nationalist] volunteer is asked to keep WP [White Power] or Third Reich imagry (sic) to a minimum and not to talk to any press."You're drowning.
