I have been thinking of going to strictly cell phone service anyway.

We have been wireless for about three years and have never regretted it.

If at all possible, shop around and find a cell phone plan that best fits your needs.

We have 2,000 "anytime" minutes and unlimited "nights and week ends" for less money than we paid for land line service and it meets our needs.

Presently I have 2 lines, one for the phone and one for a dedicated computer line.

I think I will beat the race and change my account later this next week and just keep the computer line with no phone hooked up to it. That way, if the cells are ever out, I could get out on landline by plugging in a phone to the computer line. If there is a better way, somebody please tell me what it is. Also, I don't have cable so we have satellite TV......I am even starting to wonder if that is worth the expense.

If they start to list our cell numbers, then I will just leave the darn thing off and carry a pager again. I hate pagers, it reminds me of when I use to have to work for a living..LOL

Same here, and we've saved a bundle. I live out in the sticks and EVERYTHING was long distance on the land line.

Call family and friends out of state on nights and weekends. I am long winded but have NEVER been able to use up all the minutes I get.

Don't be too sure that the cell phone companies are above this fray. They're the ones pushing to initiate a cell phone directory - big $ here in it for them. Verizon is the only company I know that has publicly sworn off taking part in this directory.

That sounds like a good plan for the future. I've gotten two "unknown caller" calls (I have caller ID) this week, one at 5 AM and one at 2:30 AM. When I pick up the phone, it sounds like a Fax or something similar. I've complained to Bell South, but they won't trace the calls (I also pay for *69) without a court order...!! My phone, their phone company, I pay for caller ID, but I can't get them to tell me who is waking me up...

Do you have a DSL line? Right now, I'm in a rural area that has no DSL, and I have to use a land line.
