If anyone has some major rehabilitation work to do in the new year, it is Teresa Heinz Kerry. As the Kerrys head for their swank vacation home this year without the press corps tallying how much it cost, or the Secret Service following too closely on the slopes, the might-have-been first lady and still extremely major philanthropist has some major thinking to do about the damage she did to her own reputation in the major run that just ended.

Didn't Susan Estrich manage the Dukakis bloodbath? Why is she still relevant?
My, my... someone is getting all fancy-pants with his posts! ;-)
Mrs. Heinz Kerry made headlines on a number of occasions for sounding off to the press, sometimes with reason. But she also called voters "idiots," when they didn't agree with her health plan, and is remembered for questioning whether Laura Bush, former teacher and librarian and full-time mother, had ever had a real job. I remember a woman turning to me, after that remark, and asking: What did she do, but marry two guys, one of whom died and left her a billion dollars? The truth is that Mrs. Heinz Kerry has done a great deal more than that, including running a major foundation in the years since her husband died.
Nice try Susan, but "running a major foundation" is an occupation only Soap-Opera characters have. Still not a "real job".
Describes her perfectly to a "T"H-K. LOL
OK, but I'm still wondering if she wrote this before or after she smoked her daily carton of Camels.
You are so right about types. I actually think THK is more sympathetic than HRC. If you know anything about THK, she felt that Senator Heinz was the great love of her life.
Susan might want to get the ponderosa pine out of her eye before she tackles a suquoia.
That this wretch would even think of criticizing another woman is chutzpah in the extreme.
Sometimes a stopped clock IS right twice a day.
Estrich glamorous........are you hallucinating?
Hi DA.
Hillary!'s got problems in 2006. She can't beat Rudy and I'm not sure she even wants to be a newly-reelected Senator while she runs for President. And Senator Obama (shameless self-promotor) will try to elbow Hillary out of the way. He will learn quickly who the real star of the party is.
Susan is too kind to Mrs. Heinz/Kerry. Or maybe it's just plain old 'Heinz' again now that JF....king Kerry is histoire (a little Kerry French lingo). Kerry's wife will never step forward and apologize or attempt to reshape her image. Why should she? Surrounded by flunkies and a fool of a husband, all afraid of losing their place at the Heinz feeding trough. The only way on God's green earth that TerAYsa Heinz would even attempt humility is if she went bankrupt.
Durasell, I agree with your economics, but "worse than Hillary"? I don't know. Certainly not nearly as dangerous as Hillary, the conservative, evangelical,Christian. Its for the children.
I don't watch TV much. Is THK a known lush or druggie?
OK. Teresa Heinz Kerry was a distraction during the campaign. While I doubt that she single-handedly sunk Kerry's campaign, she did not help it in the least.
Susan, The truth IS Mrs. Heinz Kerry IS an egocentric, arrogant, full-of-herself, spoiled rotten witch, with a checkbook, who thinks that just because she's rich she's smarter than anybody else.
This article fails to mention the name change of Heinz until after Kerry began his campaign. Both Dean and Kerry had the wife name changing event.
I don't anything about her personal love life, etc. But I saw her at her first tv appearance and thought, "Oh oh," America's gonna hate her even more than Hillary. You can go into any of those little quiet restaurants on Madison Avenue in the 70s and see 5 or 10 THKs on any given day. Like I said, I don't know much about her, but I'd wager she's probably smart as heck, eccentric in the extreme and probably fun at a cocktail party or gallery opening. However, she probably wouldn't have made a very good first lady.
No....She just played one on TV
