Yushchenko Demands New Ukraine Election

Ukraine opposition leader Viktor Yushchenko, backed by thousands of supporters, emerged on Friday from a meeting with international mediators demanding a new election to settle a crisis over a poll he says was fraudulent.

A defiant Yushchenko told his supporters in Kiev's Independence Square to remain where they were to drive home his demands to overturn the result of last Sunday's run-off vote handing victory to Prime Minister Viktor Yanukovich.

"The prime minister cannot hear you. He is offering things which drive Ukraine further from a solution to this political crisis," Yushchenko said after talks with Yanukovich, outgoing President Leonid Kuchma and European and Russian mediators.

"We will only hold talks on staging a new vote," he said, adding that he sought an election on Dec. 12.

European Union foreign policy chief Javier Solana told CNN the idea of another election would be discussed at a meeting of a working group on Saturday.

"Without doubt a third election is a possibility," Solana said.

Gooo Yushchenko! I certainly hope he wins, Belarus is already under a corrupt client state of Putin after a fake election, Putin's reelection had him getting over 90% of the vote...in Chechnya for crying out loud...now this. The Ukranian people have suffered enough under corrupt and stupid governments, God bless them in the struggles against tyranny. Drudge had an inspiring link from the BBC about how the local media is no longer biased against the opposition, I think things are turning over there.

Has anyone heard anything about the US, are we playing a part in this. I know we came out against the election fraud but if we don't take a more active part Rasputin will.

Just as long as they don't have the power to implement their ideas.

Drudge has linked a couple stories on the US's part. Powell summoned the Russian Ambassador to the State dept a couple days ago, and right now Drudge has something up about Bush saying "we are watching". Hopefully this thing will be crumbling on its own in a few days without the US being forced to show its hand, meaning that Putin knows that we know he is completely corrupt tyrant who only won his own reelection through rampant fraud.

The day is going to have to come were we confront Putin, but we need Iraq cleaned up beforehand.

It seems a lot of people have forgotten that Russia was selling arms and explosive devices to Iraq that they knew would be used to kill our guys up until the very last minute that we came into Iraq. they even sent people over to Iraq to show them how to use some of the weapons they sold them! I think that is something we should remember about our great "allie" the Russians.Trust but verify.

Good point. The Admin can't tip its hand, but certainly the American people should not let others forget.
