U.N.: Annan's Son Paid 4 Years More Than Believed on Iraqi Oil for Food Contract By Gerald Nadler Associated Press Writer
UNITED NATIONS (AP) - The son of Secretary-General Kofi Annan received payments from a firm with a U.N. Iraqi oil-for-food contract more than four years longer than the world body previously admitted, the U.N. spokesman said Friday. Spokesman Fred Eckhard said the panel investigating alleged corruption in the oil for food program has been told by Kojo Annan's lawyer about the payments.
"There is nothing illegal in this," Eckhard said of the payments from the Swiss firm Cotecna. However, it was an embarrassing moment for the United Nations to have to admit that its earlier information was wrong.
Eckhard said that Kojo Annan's attorney told him that the younger Annan "continued to receive monthly payments beyond the end of 1999, when we previously thought they had ceased, through February 2004."
Eckhard acknowledged that the United Nations previously said that Kojo had stopped receiving monthly payments at the end of 1999.
Eckhard explained that Kojo worked under an open-ended no-compete contract, meaning when an employee leaves a company, he can receive payments to assure he won't set up a competing company doing the same work as the employer.

Kofi and his criminal son should be locked up right next to Saddam.
We must end US involvement in this corrupt organization of tyrants, socialists, and America-haters. Get the United Nations out of the US and get the US out of the United Nations!

When has this hot steaming turd of an organization ever been right?
Is that like a Bud Beer distibutorship for your sons?
Placing bets...how long before anything is done about this scandal? Seems that every day there is a new revelation and yet nothing changes. How many people are being bought to keep supporting corruption and unethical procedures of the UN? Why has there been no statement from our Government (besides hearings)? Time to quit talking and start taking action.
"There is nothing illegal in this,"
Why is America still dealing with this bunch of scheisters? let alone still giving safe haven to that group of international terrorists?
Time for the World Court to exercise its "powers"....;-)
I'll see your BUMP and raise
ALL what does that make Jr.'s cut-off date? Last spring or last week??
No, its more like a robbery for your son.
Allegations of corruption in the program surfaced last January in the Iraqi newspaper Al-Mada and have intensified in recent months, calling into question the U.N.'s credibility and causing what Annan called "a very serious" crisis.
The paper listed about 270 former government officials, activists, journalists and U.N. officials from more than 46 countries suspected of profiting from oil sales.
I can't believe I paid money for this outfit.
UN out of US out of UN
Who the hell names their son "Kojo"? For some reason, I can't help but think of Cujo, the rabid dog from the Stephen King novel (of the same name).
If Kojo was an "ordinary" Joe, his fellow inmates would no doubt have a lot of fun with his name (and him as well). This is probably too much to hope for. Most likely, he will disappear under the radar for awhile. Maybe he'll stay with Aristide (wherever he is these days).
I
When will the committee that investigates the scandal (Vocker's committee) issue their report?
I agree and BUMP
Thank you for compiling a Master List for the UN/Annan Oil Scandal
