Louisville, KY (LifeNews.com) -- A Kentucky man is being charged under a new law after beating his pregnant wife so severely that her unborn child died as a result.

Eric Adam Trask was arrested Tuesday in the assault of his wife Samantha E. Trask and the death of her 5 month-old unborn baby. He was also charged with violating a protective order prohibiting him from having contact with her.

The Unborn Victims of Violence Act protects pregnant women and allows prosecutors to charge criminals who kill or injure an unborn child in an attack on a pregnant woman with two crimes instead of just one.

Scum of the earth. Bet he doesn't hit people who are bigger, stronger, and more capable of defending themselves. He deserves to be locked up...the convicts will take care of him and teach him a lesson he will not soon forget.

I'm puzzled by "HER unborn child." Are they suggesting that it wasn't HIS unborn child, too, although the couple was married?

Today, its hard to make that assumption. A woman just left my business who got engaged to the man she started dating while pregnant with the baby of another man.

How modern of them! I can see why the newspaper would stick with the obvious - "her" unborn child!

This happens a lot in abusive marriages. Good to see that men will possibly be punished for two injured people or two deaths. When I hear about abusive husbands, they often abuse their pregnant wives, pushing them out of moving cars, etc.
