Alberto Gonzales enlisted in the military when he turned 18 and was on active duty for several years before he was tapped to go to college. He's as red white and blue as any of us. Oh yeah, he was also born in the Great State of Texas in a town called Humble and lived in a two bedroom house that his migrant worker father built with his own two hands. It doesn't get any better than that. The guy is an American success story.
I don't like La Raza, but their support of Gonzales says more about them than it does about him. He's the first Hispanic ever to be nominated for this job. It is a big deal culturally for Hispanics, and La Raza is smart enough to join the parade of supporters.
I didn't know all that about Gonzales.
It only makes me like him more.
But I really don't like those type of comments ("replaced an American with a Mexican") from some who post here.
Well......Bill Clinton was a success story too in that sense. A lot of people with bad ideas have rags to riches biographies! A more serious issue on this score is Gonzalez's support of mandating "diversity" in college admissions (contra Olsen, Thomas, Scalia, and Renquist) rather than admitting on the basis of merit.
Good point. I hadn't considered that he brings them credit instead of vice versa.
