RUSH: We're going to Cypress, California next. Mike, I'm glad you waited. Welcome, sir to the EIB Network.
CALLER: An honor, Rush. Rush, I'm calling because I'm super-concerned about what's going on in the Ukraine. I'm concerned that this is an opening gambit for Putin to try to resurrect this old evil empire that we spent decades trying to undo. I'm afraid he's trying to undermine democracy in the Ukraine forever, and deprive 50 million people of freedom. I'm concerned about whether we can do anything to stop that.
RUSH: Well, it does appear -- I mean I think you have some genuine concerns about this. Putin has decided who is going to win this thing and it's not the guy who got the most votes.
CALLER: Exactly.
RUSH: Look it, I think it's worth considering that Putin is trying to reassemble the old evil empire. Also -- I don't mean to be naive here -- but I think Putin has been shaken to his core by all this Muslim terrorism that's been going on from Chechnya, in Moscow and so forth and I wouldn't discount as a possibility that what he's trying to do is come up with a way of forestalling a massive increase in power on the part of militant Islamists and terrorists throughout Russia and what would be the old Soviet Union, areas of it that he might still think to control. But regardless, you know, the liberals would say, "Well, why worry about it? It's not on our border." It is something to be concerned about, and I think isn't it amazing, ladies and gentlemen, that the incoming Secretary of State, Condoleezza Rice, happens to be -- and she's being criticized for this -- happens to be a Soviet expert. It seems to me like a fairly timely appointment, ladies and gentlemen, Condoleezza Rice, DOCTOR Condoleezza Rice. This is an interesting situation to watch, and that we will.

No. He's using Ukraine to build a new and improved "Evil Empire".
good point. thanks for the addition.
Thanks for posting this KOZ. I missed Rush yesterday and it's interesting what he had to say.
With all that is going on over there, I'm very glad Dr. Rice
will be the next Secretary of State.
true. hopefully it wont turn into another cold war. we dont need more problems :)
So, Putin was shaken by the threat of terrorism, reverted to what he knows, and decided the best way to confront the expansion of Islamic terrorism is to revive the old Soviet Block?
Worthy of consideration.
He's still dead wrong to attempt to steal Ukraine's election, and wrong to operate under the assumption the Empire would be more successful in its second trial run than it was in original form. Communism is not the answer. Setting up a puppet government through fraud is not the answer.
Promoting freedom in oppressed countries, liberalizing Islam, and fighting these murderers through military might, increased education at home, and the expansion of a culture that promotes the value of life is the answer.
i agree with you, putin could open trade, and quite honestly i had some faith and hope in russian-ukrainian relations. but when putin started meddling in this election, all that faith goes out the window.
apperantly putin not only supports but heavily funded the yanukovich.
it sure would've been smart for ukraine to bar such involvement and to come up with bette election laws, like an electoral college. instead ukraine has herself in a pickle.
If one goes back far enough there will be found cautions that Putin was somewhat of a revanchist, but those days are divested in the aspirations of a new generation and the stage being lighted by the glare of a much more ancient scourge.
did the old empire ever really die? maybe it just changed names, hands, faces. the more things change, the more they stay the same.
Interesting piece. Thanks for posting.
Not so bright and co. had a chance to be friendly with Putin but what did they do? They pissed him off. 1) They bombed Serbia to smitherins, Russia's ally, on behalf of the Kosovo Albanians.I will never forget the rush to the Pristina airport when Clark offered to start world war 3 and macho jackson had to intervene. 2)They expressed solidarity with the Chechens. In addition to meddling in their elections etc. etc.
If they had tried to treat Russia as an equal, I think things would be different. Putin would have nothing to fear.
Thank you so much for knowing about this. It is so refreshing to see someone who is educated on these issues and posting.
Anyway, so far we (we being the side of freedom and liberty) now have Poland, Hungary, Romania, Czech Republic, etc. out from under the iron fist of the former Soviet Union and today's Russia. Freedom and liberty will eventually win out in the Ukraine because it's a normal and natural feeling to live free.
Umpteen thousand years and people still fighting for it. It doesn't come easy and naturally.
Agreed. But maybe Putin is trying to rebuild the older - and better - empire:
I agree with that. I'm saying the desire is normal and natural.
Also the United States of America and our influence based on freedom and liberty has only been around for only 200+ years. Thousands and thousands of years from now I believe most people on earth and those living in outer space and on other planets will look back on USA history in a very positive light.
Can you imagine where the world would be without our great country?
>If they had tried to treat Russian as an equal, I think things would be different. Putin would have nothing to fear>
Putin is afraid of nothing.
The cold war was never really over. America just shut the fridge door, and all that ice just kept comin' on. Now it's beginning to push the door open and Lo and behold! Communism was forming without those neat little cubes, but into an avalanche. It threatens now more than ever, even in this country as evidenced by the anti-God stance our judiciary, mass media and institutions decry on a daily basis; and certainly by Russias current moves in the Ukraine.
Does this look like the Eagle we saw last spring?
Putin is using the Ukraine issue to disguise something else he is doing right now...
Putin is a smooth political operator. When he brings something to your attention, look for what the other hand is doing. He has never been this openly obvious.
Take a look at the school terrorism incident. While the world was focused on that, he altered the electoral process in Russia.
This guy is dangerous. Don't get distracted by what is out in the open.
an excellent post.
putin makes machiavelli look like a sunday school teacher.
he is the most skilled, ruthless and successfull manipulator of others in several generations. i fear that in 5 years the world will have changed very much to his favour and we won't have noticed it happening around us.
