U.S. muscle: good thing or object of contempt?
Richmond Times Dispatch, VA ^ | Thursday, November 25, 2004 | JOHN HALL

You can bet President Bush's poll ratings will go up after the Chilean security incident. He reached through a local protective detail and pulled his Secret Service agent to safety.

Bush's Chilean clean-and-jerk played on television like someone retrieving luggage at a crowded airport carousel. But this president plunged right in after his man, and he could have been Arnold Schwarzenegger battling goons.

This is a good thing. It reinforces why I voted for him. When you look at the film (you can watch my enhanced version at: http://homepage.mac.com/rlmorel/iMovieTheater50.html# ) you can see that he saw it and reacted to it. He didn't take a frikkin poll, he did what was right. You can tell he has respect for his Secret Service. He doesn't curse at them like Kerry, or call them "Trained Pigs" like the despicable Clintons. I like this guy. I would want him covering my back, and I am glad he is, as President.

Quote: As for Bush, he seemed to have one muscular answer in Chile to all his critics last week: Get over it.

I disagree with the characterization. Bush's actions were simply assertive. Nothing more, nothing less.

He could have been passive, complaining, whinning. Or he could have become aggressive, overblowing the incident.

Instead, he simply got the task done, and went on with his duties. He didn't imply anyone being "winner" or "loser." He simply asserted himself -- just the right amount.

I love this guy!

I have the same feeling. He is for real, no bullshit. The irony of it all. Kerry is a supposed war hero which most of us know is BS, you don't want to have to depend on him in a fire fight to protect you, whereas GWB would go to Iraq or Afhanistan and take a bullet to save one of his team, or get flamed by a MiG to save his buddy in the other jet, he flys wingman for. He has character!

The US is an exceptional nation with an exceptional constitution and an exceptional economic and democratic process and filled with a growing population of "Considerate Conservatives!" (especially on FR)

Like our President, we give consideration to everything and quickly consider which is righteous and which is wicked! Rather than putting up with the wicked or thoughtless crappola, we act with calm certitude in a well considered manner.

This behavior used to be more nomal, but in recent times, with all the liberal politically correct non-sense, it has become the exception to the rule. The United States is the exception to the rule, worldwide... As is our President!!!

Now if we could convince him of the folly of giving this prized exceptionalism away to illegal invaders of our "Considerate Conservative" society.

The renassiance of the "Traditional American Culture," the primacy of the english language and the sovereignty of our borders are all that stand between us and becoming just another country in the family of nations, ruled by a corrupt world government of the most oppressive nature!!!

Let the election of 2004 mark the beginning of said renassiance and our President be one of the greatest "Renassiance Men" of this new century! That will be something for which "Considerate Conservatives" can be truly thankful!!!

I might disagree with Bush on many issues, but I don't hate the guy. I like the guy. He is a real man of class. Actually, no words can describe him. God bless Bush.

The word I consistently come to in thinking about George W Bush is *mensch*. He is a genuine human being.

I don't always agree with him, but I respect him and I like him immensely. I not only like him, I LOVE him!

Dubyah is one of the things I am grateful for today. The hopeful return to the America I grew up in is another.

God bless us all and God bless America. Happy Thanksgiving, FReepers.

When I was scrolling down the thread and saw this paragraph, my first instinct was "You haven't been around here for a GOP Presidential Primary, have you, Newbie?"

But, when I scrolled on down to reply, I realized you are no Newbie and you certainly have been through the Presidential Primary wars on FR. But, after over four years, they've evidently slipped down the memory hole...

George W. Bush acts exactly like Harry Truman.

The buck stops on his doorstep, and he takes care of it.

"they've evidently slipped down the memory hole..."

No... Not really. I have a very long memory and have some very serious concerns about the President. If you'd have read the last half of my comment, you'd have seen that.

However, it does little good to keep "crying in the wilderness" like John the Baptist. I was trying to comment in the spirit of Thanksgiving and to express my mixed feelings in regard to the course of events.

It appears that you only make a shallow effort to speed-read replies, jump to a conclusion, then cast aspersions on the commentor with little consideration for the depth of the carefully crafted comment.

I have violent lingering disagreement with the hijacking of our CA Governorship and even the entire CA Repellican Party. But it does little good to continue expressing those opinions when we didn't even get a chance at a Primary with the hijacked Recall, or scatterbrained Schwarzenegger wouldn't have made it to first base anymore than Riordan did!

Now we have a CA that's controlled by a leftist legislature, a left-of-center RINO Governor and "Considerate Conservatives" who are mocked still by fellow FReepers!!!

So, if I should happen to flush my "Memory Hole" with some semi-soothing thoughts about the President in the spirit of the Holiday... don't start verbally slappin me around, tryin to make me "snap out of it!"

I am a strong believer in American Exceptionalism, no matter who is Governor, or President. The people rule unless the judges over-rule!!! (which they shouldn't)

Whoa, whoa, WHOA!

I should have put a smiley face on my comment -- which was clearly directed to the single paragraph in splendid isolation and how I'd come upon it.

And, now, inadvertently, I've opened up old wounds. I shall beg your forgiveness and depart the premises forthwith.

No! Don't depart!! It's my bad!!!

The only thing you opened up was a defensive reaction that almost seems to be necessary on FR since members of our FR family get so strenuous during these intramural battles over righteous conservatism and pseudo conservatism in all it's flavors and shades.

My biggest disappointment in FR was it's flight to pragmatism during the historic CA Recall and the resulting "Gang Bang" of those of us who even attempted to remain true to any semblance of consistency in the face of celebrity worship!

The other frustration is the conclusion jumping and presumption of guilt in regard to some "sin" or other... And here I did it too... I jumped to the conclusion you were about to jump my frame and that wasn't true. I apologize to you, okie01!!!

Happy Holidays, FRiend... Cooler heads should always prevail in these tense and insane times!!!
