Locusts seen as far north as the Hermon
Stuart Winer, THE JERUSALEM POST Nov. 24, 2004
Reports of locusts have come in from as far north as Moshav Neveh Ativ in the Golan and there are reports of locusts in the Galil and in Rishon Lezion, Army Radio reported.
The swarm of locusts that landed in Ein Gedi were sprayed with insecticides Thursday.
A huge swarm of locusts descended near Kibbutz Ein Gedi and the Ein Gedi national park on Wednesday afternoon, marking the most northerly advance of the swarms since their arrival here at the end of last week.
The swarm, the largest to gather here over the past week, settled in trees and on agricultural land belonging to the kibbutz that lies just 200 meters from the adjoining Ein Gedi national park.
Director of pest control at the Agriculture Ministry Moshe Weiss said other swarms were spotted near Eilat and Ze'elim, but that the ministry is still in control and spraying the insects at each location. "Wherever they go, we are right behind them," Weiss said.
Kibbutz Ein Gedi spokeswoman Merav Ayalon said the insects settled for the night in mango and date orchards and basil fields.
"They are all around the kibbutz," Ayalon said. "They are in the vegetation around the kibbutz." However, some of the locusts landed in the Dead Sea and drowned, said Ayalon, who was out in the open when the locusts arrived in mid-afternoon. "They are disgusting," she reported. "G-d should have stopped when he made cockroaches and not made locusts."
Although there has been very minor damage to vegetation so far, the locusts are approaching sexual maturity, after which they may begin to breed, a development that will pose a much greater threat to agriculture. Young locusts are more ravenous than adults, and it is swarms of young locusts that cause catastrophic damage to agriculture.
Weiss said it is hard to predict if and when the locusts will begin breeding.
"We don't know how old they are, they didn't come with an ID card," he said. "We don't know when that will happen. If they begin to breed we will have to deal with that as well."
One indicator is a change in color. The locusts that arrived in Israel last Sunday were pink, whereas the more recent swarms have a redder coloration and adult locusts are brown in color.
The ministry announced Wednesday night that it has coordinated with the Civil Administration to transfer 200 kg. of insecticides to the Palestinian Authority to combat locusts expected in Jericho.

Now I say the end of time is near because in the Old Testament remember the Locusts eating up Egypt because of Pharoah? http://www.theconservativerepublican.com/locustsinisrael.html
And I've got mosquitoes. That's really a bad sign!
Kook Alert!
lol
Don't know if this is a sign or not, but it does happen semi-regularly in that part of the world...
"G-d should have stopped when he made cockroaches and not made locusts."
He also should have stopped before He made Muslims , but that's just my opinion.....
LOL--very true tho...
I've checked bible scripture and compared some passages to the fact my turkey took a dump today and I'm thoroughly convinced this means the END IS NEAR! Naturally, anyone who doesn't believe me is damned to Hell!
ROTFLOL! Very cute. :)
Well, that is really Abraham and Sarah's fault.... : )
So did the end-of-time come in 1961 or 1959, the last times there were locust invasions of Israel?
__Nations having been rising against nations for the last how many millennia? The same goes for famines and earthquakes. What is significant may be the timing and/or effect.__
This is true...which is why I didn't say it couldn't be a sign...I remain open minded and watchful...and try to keep my lamp filled with oil...
