Renowned Russian political scientist Sergei Markov told reporters in Moscow on Thursday that the ongoing political crisis in Ukraine was in fact a Polish conspiracy with the aim of imposing Polish patronage over Ukraine and thus raising Polish influence within the European Union.
Yushchenkos electoral campaign has been developed within the Polish diaspora abroad and its ideological basis was prepared by former U.S. national security adviser Zbigniew Brzezinski and his two sons, the Newsru.com web-site quoted Markov as saying.
Markov said that another ethnic Pole, Andrian Karatnitsky, the head of the U.S. foundation Freedom House, had hired Serbian spin doctors and brought them to Ukraine ahead of the presidential elections. (Another Russian political scientist, Gleb Pavlovsky, said in a Wednesday evening news broadcast on Russias RTR television channel that Yushchenkos campaign had been prepared by the same specialists who prepared similar campaigns in Serbia and Georgia).
The arrival of Lech Walesa and Aleksander Kwasniewski as intermediaries in the Ukraine negotiations would become a part of the Tbilisi-Belgrade scenario, as the objective of these intermediaries is not peace, but a passing of power to Yushchenko, Markov said.
He added that the original plan is for Poland to impose its patronage over Ukraine. Polish politicians are seeking more influence within the European Union, currently dominated by France and Germany, and to achieve this, they want to become patrons of the whole of Central and Eastern Europe, the Russian analyst said.
Markov said the United States would benefit from a Yushchenko victory as it would weaken Germany and France on the world arena and also split Ukraine and Russia. He also added that the majority of the representatives of the Polish diaspora in the United States hate George Bush and want to cause a quarrel between him and Russian President Vladimir Putin.
Markov also said that the main drawback of the plan was that its implementation was possible only on condition of extreme secrecy. He reminded the press that due to historical reasons the Ukrainians are very suspicious of the Poles and such a plan would find widespread disapproval among the majority of Ukrainians.
Who are "diaspora"?
I am not familiar with that term.
On the whole Poland is one of the US's closest allies not only because the governments work together like the US and Tory Blair's, but also the people of Poland like George W Bush because they're very conservative and they remember what Reagan did for them.
I think Poland was one of the only nations that in international polls showed Bush leading Kerry.
Diaspora means polish-Americans.
Maybe I wasnt precise enough. polish Diaspora in US means polish-Americans.
ooooh a russian says so, so it must be.
hey here's a question for you, i bey you cant answer...why do you take the word of the russians and putin who are trying to rebuild the soviet empire, and wont believe the us, bush and powell?
I don't trust Powell. PERIOD.
We don't know what Bush thinks, only what Powell said.
HOLY CRAP why do you refuse to answer the question? you cant answer the question because you obviously have a hard on for russia and russia reclaiming lands it was once tyrinnical too.
why do you trust russia and putin and not bush and the us, nato, un?
I did answer the question. I don't trust Powell, and we don't know what Bush really thinks.

Note that Walesa is not calling for a revolution, but peaceful negotiations, and he decided to not interfere.
you refuse to answer the question. why do you trust putin and not the us?
Poland doesn't want Ukraine to be another Russian puppet and for this reason we're interested in the election. I hope you won't try to convience us that the mass support to Yushchenko shown on the streets across Poland was inspired by the anti-Russian conspiration. Democratic Ukraine is important to Europe, and it's even more important to its neighbour - Poland. Notice the difference between showing support to Yushchenko and helping to manipulate the elections. People in Russia should wake up and stop thinking of the former USSR countries as of revolted provinces. This article shows they still tend to act as they were the hub of the universe, it's ridiculous.
I'm afraid the opposition is not always as rational and mature as we hope they could be. GOP remains among the few who can discuss things and not return to age 4 in the process. Sorry to see you taking all the same name-calling the rest of us have endured as well. But, chin up, the tanks are still enroute, apparently. :-)
They just want Galicia and Ruthenia back.
p
Polska ping.
Sounds good to me. The best way to limlit the future threat of a US-EU confrontation is to strengthen the representation of "New Europe" in the EU, and staving off a possible alliance of the EU and Russia against us. Putin already sided with France and Germany against us in Iraq, so a future EU-Russia alliance seems likely if "New Europe" can be brought to heel.
More like Russian diarrhea.
