Reknowned fiction writer Sidney "Grassy Knoll" Blumenthal weighs in with some post-election slop:

"...Or was this a wishful paranoid fantasy of ubiquitous terrorism destroying Clinton's legacy with one blow? Or a projection of menace and messianism, with only Bush grasping the true danger, standing between submerged threat and civilisation? Perhaps it was simply his way of saying he wouldn't build his library near water..."

Sidney Blumenthal doesn't like George W. Bush very much, does he?

Blumenthal has written yet another work of fiction. Maybe he needs to apply for Dan Rather's job.

Tsk-tsk...I guess Blumenthal truly has no appreciation for satire/irony etc. "You're not such a scary guy," joked his guide. "Yes, I am," Rove replied. Walking away, he muttered deliberately and loudly: "I change constitutions, I put churches in schools ..."

HAaaaaaaaaaaaaa..and naturally...this goes RIGHT over Blumenthal's head...duhhh.

I read that it was Carter who pushed ahead.

If not made up most certainly sarcasm, given the "you're not so bad" comment.

Sheesh. . .

I'd bet my house that's a lie.

I miss old Sid. You could always count on him for a knee jerk response. He and Hillary were perfect together. He's been writing for the Guardian for a while. Perfect match. Kinda like hemorrhoids and hemorrhoid cream.

the dramatic building, a glistening silver, suspended boxcar filled with light and with a panoramic view of the Arkansas river. Flung across the river stands an old railroad bridge - and to Clinton watchers, bridges represent "the bridge to the 21st century",

"A shining trailor on a hill."

"A bridge to the 20th century",
Warning! Span ends 100 ft.!

That Museum/Library is Clinton's Legacy? As Rush Limbaugh says, "It looks like a mobile home on stilts!" And it does!
But I think Clinton will try to do something
international to bolster up his tarnished image.

Yes, I always believe everything I read in the Guardian. It's so fair and balanced.

I caught part of the opening of the Liebrary while waiting to board a flight. This part send warning shivers down my spine (paraphrased):

'Am I the only one in America who likes both John Kerry and George Bush? Am I the only one who believes that both are great men, with different ideas...'

What frightened me was that what I was hearing would become the theme of Hillary's campaign stump speech for the Presidency in '08. She will campaign on being a healer, not a divider.

And she has a damned good chance of winning.

If you'd like to be on this middle east/political ping list, please FR mail me.

At the private luncheon afterwards, in a heated tent pitched behind the library, Shimon Peres delivered a heartfelt toast to Clinton's perseverance in pursuing the Middle East peace process. Upon entering the tent, Bush, according to an eyewitness, told an aide: "One gulp and we're out of here." He had informed the Clintons he would stay through the lunch, but by the time Peres arose with wine glass in hand the president was gone.

Works for me. Next toast was probably to Arafat anyway.

Blumenthal appears to have graduated from the same pseudo journalism school that Jayson Blair came from. Both of them take their wet dreams and try make them into an article or oped.

against the already accepted protocol for the event

Yeah, clintbilly and cartbilly were prime examples of former presidents showing "protocol" during the past 4 years.

How do these guys get in print?

This guy is seriously deluded or deranged. The writing shows it. The event was biblical..."The opening ceremony was biblical in its spectacle, length and rain."

>>"You're not such a scary guy," joked his guide. "Yes, I am," Rove replied. Walking away, he muttered deliberately and loudly: "I change constitutions, I put churches in schools ..." Thus he identified himself as more than the ruthless campaign tactician; he was also the invisible hand of power, pervasive and expansive, designing to alter the fundamental American compact. <<

He does not recognize a joke? Sidney is deluded or he takes this far too seriously.

>>Or was this a wishful paranoid fantasy of ubiquitous terrorism destroying Clinton's legacy with one blow? Or a projection of menace and messianism, with only Bush grasping the true danger, standing between submerged threat and civilisation? Perhaps it was simply his way of saying he wouldn't build his library near water. <<

Messianism? Sidney has a religion problem. And Al Queda does have a navy.

>>Clinton concluded his remarks with a challenge to Bush couched in terms of his own failure - "where we fell short ... the biggest disappointment in the world to me ... peace in the Middle East ... I did all I could." He then faced Bush: "But when we had seven years of progress toward peace, there was one whole year when, for the first time in the history of the state of Israel, not one person died of a terrorist attack, when the Palestinians began to believe they could have a shared future. And so, Mr President, again, I say: I hope you get to cross over into the promised land of Middle East peace. We have a good opportunity, and we are all praying for you." <<

Clinton can admit failure and deny it, all in the same sentence, and Sidney does not have a problem. Although if you look at reality, Clinton was being played. By actively participating in the election against Bibi Netanyahu (sp), and electing Barak with his weak stand, Clinton guaranteed a hardliner would follow.

Clinton had a failed foreign policy in almost every way.

But Sidney is blind to reality. And he gets paid to write. That's the problem.

DK

Boxcar, very apt. It is filled with the ghosts of over three thousand dead Americans.

Much as the boxcars of Europe carried thousands to their deaths.

The thing looks like a mobile home but, as always, Sid sounds like a schoolgirl with a crush on Billy.

And he IS known for his dramatic retelling of events, isn't he, using more than a dollop of creativity when the mood strikes. LOL
