If you're reading this through bleary eyes, and your first thought this morning was not "Turkey!" but "aspirin," chances are you went out last night. Because yesterday was not just the biggest travel day of the year. According to bar owners, last night was also the biggest party night of the year.
"For years, it's been the craziest night to go out," said Mike Termini, the owner of the animal-themed Zoo Bar in Nyack. "I don't think there's any holiday that compares to it for the bar business."

Well, I'm just back from a night of bar hopping, so I guess the article isn't entirely inaccurate...
On Thanksgiving Eve is it okay to open one present? The kids keep bugging me to open them Wednesday night. Of course, they still get up early and open the rest of them from under the turkey.
It's not just the bar business that booms, we always had a lot of dinners in the restaurants, followed by the harder-core partiers in the bars because that's just something people do when they get together after not not having seen each other in a while.
What with the huge upsurge in travel this year, bar and restaurant owners are probably pretty happy with the haul. How happy the bartenders and waitresses are depends on the economy, particularly the price of fuel along the travel route.

Well, my family has always opened family presents on Thanksgiving Eve, and Santa presents- er, I mean Great Pilgrim presents on Thanksgiving...
