Gubernatorial recount puts official on hot seat
Seattle Times ^ | November 24, 2004 | Splatter

When (Dean -D) Logan took over the troubled elections office a year ago, he won praise from both political parties.

In the past two weeks, Logan and his office have been sued by the Republican and Democratic parties.

And state Republican Party Chairman Chris Vance has launched particularly harsh attacks. Vance has accused Logan of opening the door to possible voter fraud by allowing the Democratic Party to deliver signed affidavits from absentee and provisional voters, storing open boxes of blank ballots near boxes of completed ballots and failing to keep adequate track of all ballots.

"I'm not going to attack Dean Logan," Vance said. "But I do know he's a Democrat, and I do know that we've seen big problems, things we're not making up."

Members of the Metropolitan King County Council and the Elections Oversight Committee praise him for his openness and management skills.

He (later) worked as a lobbyist and campaign coordinator for the Washington State Labor Council.

Republican Party Chairman Vance has made much of the Democratic affiliations of Logan and his appointed elections superintendent, Bill Huennekens, accusing Sims of a history of appointing "political hacks" to count votes.

Logan also has taken heat over the discovery that King County had 10,000 more provisional votes to count than his office first estimated.

Others have complained about restrictions on where political-party observers could stand while workers validated provisional ballots. Logan said he restricted access to protect voters' privacy and avoid distracting workers.

"It's a constant battle with yourself not to take it personally, to stay focused on what you're doing," he said. "I think in the end it's going to work out fine."

Ha! Voter Privacy! What do you call taking a marker and writing on someone elses ballot? I call it Fraud! You, Mr.Logan, call it the "Democratic Process".

Do you think there will be enough public outrage after what is about to happen that the Dems may rethink their plan?

Outrage is secondary to political power to them IMO. I doubt they have the foresight (or even care) to envision the statewide political damage they'll bring upon themselves if they push forward. The Rats are only going to be able to hedge their bets on King County for so long. If they pull this recount crap it'll blow up on them next time around somehow. They may win King Co. time and again but that will serve to isolate them. Let the bastards keep it up. I doubt they'll learn anything

look....let's be real....

even my local Spokane media are all aghast that a Republican is the winner...they can't even say he won...all they are saying is that its still a toss up and its Gregoire this and Gregoire that....I am not exaggerating....

the Rats will try to pull this off...

I wonder if after they selectively count Kink county, and they pull ahead, is it up to the Republicans then to foot the cost of a full recount?

I am so furious about this.....I probably won't sleep tonite....

Of course they will and yes they want the GOP to pay for a recount. Sorry if I sound too optimistic :-) The media continues to marginalize itself and is very transparent as Gregoire's mouthpiece. Damn skippy there's work to be done but there will be some good to come of this either way. On a side note, I live in Pierce and was stunned to see that Rossi carried Pierce Co. btw: Happy Thanksgiving!

Very good analysis of WA Dems. "Not every Dem in WA is a flaming Leftist.". Very true. As a matter of fact I believe most aren't but still too many are unaware of how communistic, socialistic nature of their party. They are uninformed.

How many of the 80% (really?) that voted for Jim McDermott heard his pledge of allegiance in congress? How many know about the Dem ties to teachers unions (find a D rep that wasn't a member)? How many WA voters know how out of touch Murry is with world events?

The person that put my feet on the ground was my Dad. Years ago I came home from (public) school ranting and raving about the US. My Dad said "Do you realize how lucky you are to be born in America?" He then sat me down and calculated the chances of me being here, WA. State USA, instead of somewhere in South Africa or a third world country. My chances were very slim. Why here, why now, what do I have, what can I have. I realized that I am very lucky. America is the best country in the world.

It is a time to be thankful, even if things don't go your way (pretty hard times here), and I am.

Here is my favorite quote: "A stupid man cannot learn, an ignorant man has not had the opportunity to learn, but a foolish man is able to learn, has the opportunity, and does not do it." --Chelsea Quinn Yarbro

We can't let the outrage become rage. If you believe like I do, it will all come back to them. Even if they do cheat and lie to win they will loose in the long run. That is the difference. Gratification of the moment versus long term satisfaction. Dems are a one night stand party.

how do they lose in the end?

they've controlled the governorship for 25 yrs and this year , they control both houses, or are very near to it...

they will not lose at all because people just don't care at all, even the ones who voted for Rossi....

if the MSM is calling it a tie, then its a tie, and no matter how many recounts, its never going to be clearly Rossi's even with the recount of the recount of Kink county....

their cheating has never cost them a thing..

now....if the Republicans can force the issue at every point, then and only then will the farce be revealed...

I am hoping the Pubs don't pull up anchor and shrug their shoulders and say "oh well"....

how do they lose in the end?

They will loose and ARE loosing control of WA state. Their governorship for 25 years, the liberal MSM and political corruption has become nationally known. Its not like it was. People are waking up to the lies. With every politically correct law, pandering Representative and anti-American amendment they seal their fate. McDermott, Murry and the professional protesters are doing the work for the Conservatives. When the Dems say "We need additional sources of revenue." the voters know they are talking about higher taxes. Terrorists cells plotting and planing attacks from Seattle does not go unnoticed. Businesses leaving because of mismanagement of the state budget hits hard and can't be blamed on Bush. If the political structure in WA had not changed Rossi would not be the Governor.

Gregoire, like most liberals, has underestimated the intelligence of the general public. Even if they cheat they still loose and will continue to loose until there is reform in the Democrat party.

The Blue areas are becoming "high density" because of the presence of collages and liberal media outlets. Progressive, liberal, Democrat, whatever you want to call them, they had their chance and blew it.

I'm just glad Jim McDermott is still around. He is one crazy Dem. With Dems like him the Conservatives will just keep growing.
