IMAGINE a million angels united in delirious hymnal praise to wondrous goodness and you might be halfway towards the likely reaction if a Democrat American president appointed a black woman as Secretary of State. Condoleezza Rice, however, was appointed by inarticulate oil-mongering Hitler-worshipper George W. Bush, so she must be vilified instead. “Condoleezza Rice is not a warm human being,” said Greens leader Bob Brown, whose own warmth isn’t exactly a threat to the polar ice caps. Australian-born cartoonist Pat Oliphant took a high-brow approach in The Washington Post, depicting Rice as Bush’s demented parrot: “Awwrk!! OK chief! Anything you say, chief! You bet chief! You’re my hero, chief!” Talk about your sophisticated political analysis. And The Sydney Morning Herald’s Mike Carlton delivered this lemon-chewing satire: “Dr Fried Rice, 50, is regarded as one of the architects of victory in Iraq. Born to a family of dirt-poor sharecroppers in Klansville, Mississippi, she obtained a PhD in Cold War Rhetoric from the prestigious Ronald Reagan University in Arizona and can read a menu in French.” Rice speaks four languages; Carlton is fluent in both English and sneer. - Tim Blair
Wonderful. She intimidates the hell out of them--and secretly, all of them believe that a black woman (double affirmative action) really can't be any good. They are victims of their own racist programming...
