The President's Thanksgiving Proclamation for 2004

All across America, we gather this week with the people we love to give thanks to God for the blessings in our lives. We are grateful for our freedom, grateful for our families and friends, and grateful for the many gifts of America. On Thanksgiving Day, we acknowledge that all of these things, and life itself, come from the Almighty God.

Almost four centuries ago, the Pilgrims celebrated a harvest feast to thank God after suffering through a brutal winter. President George Washington proclaimed the first National Day of Thanksgiving in 1789, and President Lincoln revived the tradition during the Civil War, asking Americans to give thanks with "one heart and one voice." Since then, in times of war and in times of peace, Americans have gathered with family and friends and given thanks to God for our blessings.

Thanksgiving is also a time to share our blessings with those who are less fortunate. Americans this week will gather food and clothing for neighbors in need. Many young people will give part of their holiday to volunteer at homeless shelters and food pantries. On Thanksgiving, we remember that the true strength of America lies in the hearts and souls of the American people. By seeking out those who are hurting and by lending a hand, Americans touch the lives of their fellow citizens and help make our Nation and the world a better place.

This Thanksgiving, we express our gratitude to our dedicated firefighters and police officers who help keep our homeland safe. We are grateful to the homeland security and intelligence personnel who spend long hours on faithful watch. And we give thanks for the Americans in our Armed Forces who are serving around the world to secure our country and advance the cause of freedom. These brave men and women make our entire Nation proud, and we thank them and their families for their sacrifice.

On this Thanksgiving Day, we thank God for His blessings and ask Him to continue to guide and watch over our Nation.

NOW, THEREFORE, I, GEORGE W. BUSH, President of the United States of America, by virtue of the authority vested in me by the Constitution and laws of the United States, do hereby proclaim Thursday, November 25, 2004, as a National Day of Thanksgiving. I encourage all Americans to gather together in their homes and places of worship to reinforce the ties of family and community and to express gratitude for the many blessings we enjoy.

IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand this twenty-third day of November, in the year of our Lord two thousand four, and of the Independence of the United States of America the two hundred and twenty-ninth.

GEORGE W. BUSH

Lord, we give thanks for the many blessings you have given this great nation. We pray that American citizens will continue to believe in and support the fundamental values and truths that have made this country great.

We pray that ww will have the perception and the faith to explore new directions as they are presented to us, to reward and value high accomplishment and to uphold and encourage all that you find good in your sight.

"To preach deliverance to the captives."
- Luke 4:18

None but Jesus can give deliverance to captives. Real liberty cometh from
him only. It is a liberty righteously bestowed; for the Son, who is Heir
of all things, has a right to make men free. The saints honour the justice
of God, which now secures their salvation. It is a liberty which has been
dearly purchased. Christ speaks it by his power, but he bought it by his
blood. He makes thee free, but it is by his own bonds. Thou goest clear,
because he bare thy burden for thee: thou art set at liberty, because he
has suffered in thy stead. But, though dearly purchased, he freely gives
it. Jesus asks nothing of us as a preparation for this liberty. He finds
us sitting in sackcloth and ashes, and bids us put on the beautiful array
of freedom; he saves us just as we are, and all without our help or merit.
When Jesus sets free, the liberty is perpetually entailed; no chains can
bind again. Let the Master say to me, "Captive, I have delivered thee,"
and it is done for ever. Satan may plot to enslave us, but if the Lord be
on our side, whom shall we fear? The world, with its temptations, may seek
to ensnare us, but mightier is he who is for us than all they who be
against us. The machinations of our own deceitful hearts may harass and
annoy us, but he who hath begun the good work in us will carry it on and
perfect it to the end. The foes of God and the enemies of man may gather
their hosts together, and come with concentrated fury against us, but if
God acquitteth, who is he that condemneth? Not more free is the eagle
which mounts to his rocky eyrie, and afterwards outsoars the clouds, than
the soul which Christ hath delivered.
If we are no more under the law, but free from its curse, let our liberty
be practically exhibited in our serving God with gratitude and delight.
"I am thy servant, and the son of thine handmaid: thou hast loosed my
bonds.
" "Lord, what wilt thou have me to do?"
C.H.SPURGEON

Mt 16:24 Then Jesus said to His disciples, "If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow Me.
25 "For whoever desires to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for My sake will find it.
26 "For what profit is it to a man if he gains the whole world, and loses his own soul? Or what will a man give in exchange for his soul?
27 "For the Son of Man will come in the glory of His Father with His angels, and then He will reward each according to his works.
28 "Assuredly, I say to you, there are some standing here who shall not taste death till they see the Son of Man coming in His kingdom."
(NKJV)

SOLI DEO GLORIA!
SOLA CHRISTUS!
SOLA FIDE!
SOLA GRATIA!
SOLA SCRIPTURA!

Thank you for pinging. I agree with the prayers offered, Lord, and ask that the knowledge of You and Your ways continues to spread in our land and across the world. Bless and strengthen those on the front lines of that spiritual battle. Shine Your light on the lies, and open the eyes of the blind. And please watch over our beloved president, all his family and staff, and our secret service and armed forces. Protect them all, guide them all. May they seek Your face every day, and may Your grace and favor rest upon them. Amen.

Our most gracious and kind Heavenly Father, I offer my prayers in thanks for bringing President Bush and his party home safely from their trip to South America. Heavenly Father, we pray he will have a peaceful few days at his ranch in Texas and that You will be with him as he travels back to Washington.

Heavenly Father, we pray for our military men and women who are away from their families on this Thanksgiving day. Not only in Iraq, but around the world in other countries and at home. Bless their families and comfort them. May they know that we love them and thank them for their sacrifices.

We ask these blessings in Your Son's Precious Name, Amen.
