Bush Bounce Confounds the Media
NewsMax.com ^ | 11/24/04 | Carl Limbacher

NewsMax.com's Fr. Michael Reilly notes that President Bush's approval ratings are on the rise again, much to the chagrin of the mainstream press.

The results of the first major post-election poll show a big bounce for President Bush, with a CNN/Gallup survey awarding Bush a 55 percent job approval rating, with only 42 percent disapproving.

What's more, Bush's personal popularity is 60 percent as opposed to 39 percent who do not approve. Administration officials are also registering strong approval numbers, with Colin Powell leading the pack at 87 percent. Condoleeza Rice wins a 63 percent approval rating while Vice President Cheney comes in at a healthy 53 percent.

Even the media's latest target, Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld has a 51 percent approval rating, with the Democrat's Darth Vader, Attorney General John Ashcroft winning a 50 percent approval rating.

The president's post-election bounce has undoubtedly startled much of the big media, who have been warning that a second Bush administration would be even "worse" than the first.

As NewsMax had reported before the election, the Center for Media and Public Affairs showed that John Kerry got the "best press ever" of any recent presidential candidate, with 58 percent positive coverage to Bush's 36 percent.

As Bush began to rise in the post-convention polls, the percetage of pro-Kerry coverage rose to 77 percent. Meanwhile, Bush's positive coverage slipped to 34 percent.

Now that the election is over and the media has less opportunity to pummel the president, his ratings are on the rise.

Imagine what the margin of Bush's victory would be if the press had covered the election fairly.

Heck, I'll bet even Halliburton's approval ratings are over 50%.....

LOL! Haven't heard that word since the elections.

Wow! You found a fellow FReeper at work? Now that is sweet. I keep sending out FR articles to my email buddies, and not one of them (even the die-hard conservatives) has ever said, "Oh, I saw that on FR". I keep hoping to convert some of them, LOL!

Hello,

Welcome! You lurked almost as long as I did, glad that you jumped in. This is (as you know) the best place on the web.

Glad to be here, MOgirl

Guess I can't add, make that 27% for Kerry....ooops.

Not a mistake. That number accounts for the "recently deceased" vote that traditionally goes dem.

It's simple: The election's over, so the media has let up on him. The follow the media folks who don't think for themselves are beginning to shift their opinions.

yes, long time. Feels better to contribute than to just lurk. Some lessons are just hard to learn.

Hello,

I think that I waited so long because I was able to learn so much here. (Strange, isn't it, to feel as though you actually know someone, who doesn't know you?)

I was kept sane by this site and these wonderful people. I jumped in when I was ready, I bet you did the same.

Glad to be here (glad you are too), MOgirl

Bush's popularity was probably increased by the recent passing of a bill that makes psychological screening of schoolchildren mandatory. Either that or the provision to allow elected officials to view your tax returns. Or perhaps Social Security benefits to illegal aliens.

"Guess I can't add, make that 27% for Kerry....ooops"
Why, in your calculations you absolutely legitimately gave kerry extra 2% from vote fraud. I actually thought he would pull more of it.

Well, for one thing the year-long cacophany of criticism from the MSM & Demos has much abated with the election ... hence a rise to the basic level of support that was somewhat supressed by the BIG LIARS.

Wasn't it Mark Helperin of ABC who promised months ago that MSM coverage of the campaign would be worth 15 percentage points to Kerry? I feel certain he wasn't exaggerating.

Bush would have picked up MN, WI, MI and PA. He would have gotten over 300+ electoral votes. Only the bias of the legacy media made it closer than it should have been.
