The one part of this story that you never hear about is that this was nearly identical to a scene that occurred in New York in August during the meeting of the U.N. General Assembly. Only that time it was the U.S. security personnel who detained a member of the Chilean staff -- for nearly an hour, if my information is correct.
This was nothing more than payback by the Chilean government.

The U.S. doesn't provide security personnel to the United Nations. They hire their own and they are U.N. security personnel. They have no status as agents of the United States.
