An informal exorcism performed at the Cathedral of St. Paul this month was more profane than sacred and was directed toward gay Catholics, police and church authorities said Tuesday.
They said the ritualistic sprinkling of blessed oil and salt around the church and in donation boxes amounted to costly vandalism and possibly even a hate crime.
The damage was discovered Nov. 7 after the noon mass, and after words were exchanged between members of the Rainbow Sash Alliance, a gay rights group, and the opposing group, Catholics Against Sacrilege.

You forgot papasan. No personal attack is complete without a racial component.
So then, what they say about ignorance and bliss must be true!
I'm sorry I couldn't resist. No seriously, do you read any Catholic publications?
"You're a"
OOOOOOoooooo, here we go with the personal attacks from the "deacon" who never makes personal attacks.
"mediocre parliamentarian"
Better get a dictionary.
"and your debating skills suck."
Do you kiss your mother with that mouth? Fine language from a "deacon," to say that my debating skills commit fellatio.
By the way, "deacon," I'm not debating here, I'm merely providing a play-by-play of the various ploys you're scraping out of the bottom of the garbage can.
"You forgot papasan. No personal attack is complete without a racial component."
(Smacking forehead) Good catch. How could I forget that one?
No. They're all full of nonsense. I read John Allen's column in the Reporter, and that's about it.
The trad publications are loaded with diatribes against the Pope and the Novus Ordo. Every week, the same stuff, over and over.
Plus, all the traddie rags are splashed all over FR, on a daily basis.
This is a phenomenal excerpt from an article on spiritdaily.com which was sent to me yesterday... the timing with this pseudo vandalism is phenomenal and a highlighting of the spiritual battle...
"On Wednesday, November 17, 2004, after the noon Mass and a recitation of one decade of the Rosary, the prayer group in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada received a message from Jesus of the Blessed Sacrament, Our Lady of Fatima, and St. Michael the Archangel," claims one report.
"The messages said: 'My dear children, I am your Mother, the Lady of Fatima. I am very sorrowful at this moment for the loss of my churches, the Mystical Body of my Son. As revealed by my Son, your prayers will be granted a heavenly power from the Holy Trinity and the Court of
Heaven. My dear children when you pray in unity for the return of the Church of my Son, I will be with you in prayer and my angels will help you in your needs and in all the needs of your loved ones. At this moment I will bless all of you and all of your loved ones with the care of my maternal protection. I bless you in the name of the Father , the Son and the Holy Spirit".
"'My dear children, ...I am your angel, Saint Michael the Archangel,'" claimed another message from the same group. "'As revealed by the Almighty God, there will be an event, a purification event and some lives will be taken. My dear children of God, I am your protector, the Prince of Heaven. For every living soul who will pray for the return of
the churches, for whom the prince of evil is intending to destroy, I will be always on your side ready to help you and your loved ones for any danger that will occur in the world."
For the record, I think in my previous posts I never made the specific blanket statement that the NO was totally invalid. I hinted that my opinion might lean in that direction. I also referred to the "Ottaviani intervention", and his claims along with Cardinal Bacci. I indicated that numerous other competent, level-headed theologians made serious inquiry into this issue.
I suggested that perhaps it is a matter which Catholics should explore and research for themseelves. But there is one thing in particular which I did state as verifiyable fact.
That the Novus Ordo Missae is contrary to what is actually written in and mandated by the document on the liturgy written by the council father....contrary to the intentions of the majority of the bishops at the council. There is nothing to argue about here.......its all in black & white......with all of the beloved documents of Vatican II. Readily available to the curious reader.
But for saying this, and indicating that there exists this very real issue.....that it is a controversial matter affecting the faith, which thinking Catholics should look into...........I am called names? I am told to "back off"?
Are we going to have book burnings next?
Neither did I but facts don't matter.
Are we going to have book burnings next?
No, they advocate body burnings.
Thanks, I will check this out. **reaching for Brown Scapular**
Parsing like Clinton. Your words were clear, thorski.
I also referred to the "Ottaviani intervention", and his claims along with Cardinal Bacci.
Ottaviani recanted his "intervention."
Ottaviani did not recant. He was old, blind and in the hospital when the hierarchy shoved papers in front of him with instructions to sign. Even Novus Ordo supporters admit the whole episode was a fabricated event.
I'm sure that's what Michael Matt believes.
Even Novus Ordo supporters admit the whole episode was a fabricated event.
I've never seen that. Perhaps you could post a link or two.
Or is this another one of those "find it yourself" moments that traddies are famous for?
Yes.
Ever notice that when you present solid evidence to modernists, citing the saints and doctors of the church - about such things as sacramental intention and its influence upon the validity of a sacrament - that is ignored, and you are jeered, insulted, and told to shut up.
Such is typical behaviour of all the persecutors of the Church down through the ages. It is not about reason, logic, or even the truth.
Its all about an agenda. And we know its ultimate author....and he has cloven feet.
post a link post a lipost a link post a linpopost a link st a link k ............
like a broken record........but if you do post a link, it is no good because its:
from a trad paper
from a book written by a saint
from scripture
from a papal encyclical
from a mainstream news source.
Or any number of other excuses.
Your opinion means naught. Only the modernist, AMchurch, autodestruction of the church agenda counts.
Would it matter?
You don't read books and any link I presented you would dismiss as "traddie propaganda".
I think you like all this attention.
LOL, exactly what I said!
Perhaps, but I doubt it. Flagrant episcopal complicity in sacriledge is such an enormous outrage, I can see how it can drive otherwise stable people into doing stupid things.
They're protest a bit too much about the damage, it seems to me. A little oil stained the concrete outside the Cathedral. Real damage to be sure, but it seems pretty minor to me.
Now the next comment is "See, I knew you didn't have a source."
LOL
I read books; I don't read Catholic newspapers.
As I thought, you haven't one iota of evidence to back up your assertion that Ottaviani was coerced into signing his retraction.
You guys make these wild statements, then hide when asked to back them up.
Why should I believe a person who thinks Novus Ordo consecrations are invalid?
