Town Raffles Rifles to Raise Money for School
DALLAS - To raise money for a local school project, residents in Lampasas, Texas, are turning to a time-honored tradition, the raffle. But their fundraiser has a unique twist -- the winner walks off with two rifles.
Lampasas, located in central Texas Hill Country, wants to raise about $15,000 to build a fence around parts of Hanna Springs Intermediate School, where a known sexual predator has been seen near campus.
Officials said it is easier to raise money selling guns in the area, which is a popular hunting spot, than to peddle cookies and sweets.
"In this part of the state, it is difficult to raise money, and a bake sale just doesn't do the trick," said Katherine Yoder, chief of staff for Republican state Rep. Suzanna Hupp, who donated a high-end rifle from firearms maker Kimber.
The winner of the raffle will also receive a .22 caliber rifle donated by a parent and hunting t-shirts. The drawing will be held Dec. 8.
"This rifle will go toward protecting our children," Hupp said in statement explaining why she donated the firearm.
Many who bought raffle tickets visit the Hill Country for deer-hunting season, which begins in late fall. Lampasas, home to about 6,700 residents, usually sees its population double during hunting season.
The winner of the raffle must be over 18 years of age and is subject to local, state, and federal regulations regarding the transfer of firearms, officials said.
Why not use the Kimber on the predator, and save the money by not building a fence?
We do about the same thing here in 76834 land.
The VFD raffles off a shotgun nearly every year. Very popular event and raises a lot of money for a good cause.
Anybody know where I could send a contribution? I don't need another rifle but I'd like to recognize their courage.
I'd be willing to bet that there'd be more than a few FR dollars going to the high school if the entry/address was known to the FR community...
What on earth is unique with this raffle? Objects of value are raffled off to raise money. Real America has been raffling off rifles and shotguns longer than the United States has existed.
Just another indication the Old Media is run by girlie-men.
I believe she was in Luby's when that nut gunned down her parents and her weapon was in her vehicle, because the restaurant didn't allow patrons to carry their weapons into the establishment.

If this ever happened in my suburb west of Boston the press and the public would go NUTS!!!!!!!
Sometimes I feel as if I'm living in a different world that the rest of America.I'm trying to survive in PC land and it's getting tougher each day.
Hi, Euphoric:
Great story!
Reminds me of a rifle raffle in W. Virginia that made more than $250,000.
Another in my home state of Maryland. Where a Beretta 92-F was raffled and made about $300,000. Liberal Montgomery County wanted to get in on the act, though with a much more PC prize.
A "Trigger Lock" was raffled. I believe the county made about $50 from that fiasco!
Jack.
COOL!
Living in Massachusettes has to be challenging. One big liberal breeding ground.

I have Known I known Rep. Suzanna Hupp for many years. She is my favorite pistol packing Mama. You are right; both her parents were killed in Lubys. She is a strong right to I known Rep. Suzanna Hupp for many bear arms supporter and great conservative. She is one of the main reasons we in Texas have a concealed handgun license.
