Here is another great link to another video of Bush rescuing his Secret Service Agent in Chile. This is very similar to video link I posted early this morning, however, this video link has no background commentary, and I believe you can hear Bush speaking 'get your hands off him'. Also, as someone else said "notice the guy on the right rather frantically trying to point out to the others that THE MOST LEADER OF THE MOST POWERFUL NATION ON EARTH is trying to break up the fight."

Also, if my ears are right, right at :32 seconds elapsed on your video link there there, you can hear the woman (probably in the red outfit stepping in next to Bush and also trying to extract that agent) saying "Mr. President!"; right after that you hear HIM say "Git Your Hands Off Him!"

"I think George the elder fooled a lot of people with that external public gentle demeanor... He was a tough CIA agent before he ever got to the top slot...."
I assumed he was a tough guy while in the CIA, but all that changed.
We DO know he caved to House pressure regarding taxes, and ran a wimpy re-election campaign which led to Bubba.

Worth repeating:
I agree from a security standpoint this was a total breakdown of basic personnel protection discipline. Even worse it's caught on tape for the entire world to see. Believe me this security breach will be studied by our enemies. The President walking over to the foreign mob to retrieve his personal bodyguard should be treated as a failure in security that if not remedied could be exploited
I wonder wether anyone studdied the effects of video games on the thought process of those "in the line of fire". Unlike shoot 'em ups, in real life, there is no "start again" after you got killed or your boss got killed.
I am afraid that this episode is only

I admire his courage, but the President needs to stay out of such things, its potentially dangerous. We are in the middle of a war with ruthless assassins, who would stop at nothing to get at him. Not that that would change anything. But our enemy is stupid too. Just look at the grief Osama Bin Laden has brought down on them. Not to mention that moron Hussein, who thought he could just thumb his nose at us.

I watched a 44 minute long video of this that was posted here on FR. That doorway remained clear as other heads of state and dignitaries arrived. The ONLY time the door was blocked was when the SS tried to enter with GW. It was planned by Chile and that thought makes me sweat.

Exactly! And I have NO DOUBT, that, had the situation warranted, President Bush would have decked someone!

I don't know what else he could have done. Studying the video carefully, and from newspaper accounts, this was a deliberate act by the Chileans of separating our W from his USSS agents (there was more than one out front barred from entering).
WaPo and WashTimes said the USSS and Chilean police & security were arguing back and forth all day re: POTUS protection, the USSS taking charge of POTUS security even on foreign soil - and they were half expecting a stunt of some kind.
The Chileans wanted the USSS to enter a side door, with only the heads of state and their spouses entering the front door. This was unacceptable to USSS as it would leave W's back unprotected.
It is unclear to me whether we had agents in place already INSIDE the bldg as POTUS entered. I sure hope so. There are definitely men standing right inside the door watching as our W went into the fray to pull out Trotta - they continued to stand there and did nothing to assist. Were they our USSS or Chilean security or just onlookers? I can't tell.
I'm wondering whether this ongoing argument between security staffs was related to our W and he was aware of the tension. He was certainly aware of his perimeters judging by his actions.Notice towards the end of the video, after exchanging pleasantries with Chilean President and starting to move, that W looks back over his shoulder to make sure Trotta is with him.
Looking at the whole tape and having read all (I think) the newspaper accounts, I think W did the right thing - to ensure his and Laura's protection.

Thanks for the analysis. I must say that I am more than a little angry that Chilean security would interfere with the USSS efforts in protecting our President - the leader of the free world in war time. I hope the President will not be visiting there again anytime soon. Morons.
