Since Nov. 2, I've had an icky feeling in the pit of my stomach. As an ardent Bush backer, my queasiness has nothing to do with the glorious election results, but is prompted by a murder that occurred the same day in Amsterdam.
Dutch filmmaker Theo van Gogh's short film "Submission," about the treatment of women in Islam, written by female Dutch parliamentarian and former Muslim Aayan Hirsi Ali, had aired in August on Dutch TV. Van Gogh was riding his bike near his home when a Muslim terrorist shot him, slashed his throat, and pinned to his body a note threatening Ms. Ali. This appears to be an organized effort, not the act of a lone nut; Dutch authorities are holding 13 suspects in the case.
After the slaying, I watched "Submission" (available online at ifilm.com) and my mind is still boggled that 11 minutes decrying violence against women incites such violence. There've been many films over the years that have taken potshots at Catholics, but I don't remember any of us slaughtering filmmakers over the offense. You didn't see the National Rifle Association order a hit on Michael Moore over "Bowling for Columbine."
One would think that in the name of artistic freedom, the creative community would take a stand against filmmakers being sent into hiding à la Salman Rushdie, or left bleeding in the street. Yet we've heard nary a peep from Hollywood about the van Gogh slaying. Indeed Hollywood has long walked on eggshells regarding the topic of Islamic fundamentalism. The film version of Tom Clancy's "The Sum of All Fears" changed Palestinian terrorists to neo-Nazis out a desire to avoid offending Arabs or Muslims.

what the Hollywood liberals fail to recognize is if the Islamists were to descend upon Hollywood the libs would be the first to die. It is their very lifestyle and their culture the extremists loathe. It is their lifestyle and culture that provokes the condemnation by the Arab world...I should think they would be making movies showing the perversity of Wahabism, like Van Gogh had the cojones to do...now THAT would be attacking the proper enemy...of course, they only see evil in the conservative wing...isn't Stone going to make a movie about Che? Perhaps he should do the Life and Times of OBL....I am sure it would sell well in the middle east and assure him a position of distinction at the table of the new Islamic Republic of the World...
well I guess you kinda have to laugh as she is so ludicrous sometimes..like telling people to hang their wash on the line...she is so ridiculous it does become funny..I think that is what happens to people who become famous and rich...they become so self-absorbed and egotistical they don't realize they no longer relate to the common man or woman...stupid she ain't..incredibly shallow she is..and full of herself..it is all about Barbra....
It's hard for the prideful to admit when they're wrong.
Only the Left can find a redemption in 'PC'. . .but of course, it is a Marxist thing. . .
But about those poor libs that do seek help; it is interesting that it certainly speeks to basic differences of perception to ones place in the world that separates Libs from 'the rest of us'. . .
I know that not one of these help/seeking Libs feels any worse than many here . . .or 'there'. . .felt when Bill Clinton ascended to power. . .the first time. . .then the second.
I know I was more than depressed and convinced our country could not survive a Clinton presidency; much less two.
And in most significant ways; we did not survive; and will forever pay the price. But there was certainly no media driven interest in our pain and suffering; or calls to therapy et al.
not true. He keeps a roll of quarters in there.
X42 felt our pain, don't ya know?
"not true. He keeps a roll of quarters in there."
Does he store them in the front or the back?

This is excellent. Thank you!
>>Hollywood probably belongs to CAIR and their goals are the same.
They both hate America.
bttt
They are all afraid! If they weren't the super market rags would have been haing a field day with the likes of OBL.
There will be nothing said or done by any of the ones that "claim" it is brave to standup and "not in my name", no not a word will we hear from them.
The trouble is that this Dutch filmmaker was not a very nice person. He baited Muslims and Jews.
The film was not just examining the role of women in Islvery provocative.
The filmmaker also would make claims that Muslims have sex with animals.
The guy was extremely racist. This does not at all justify murdering him, but he was not trying to win over people's minds to treating Muslim women better. He was just trashing Muslims.
I have noticed that a lot of Muslim reporters, policemen, and some politicians are getting killed all the time by terrorists because they are supporting American policies in the Middle East, but on this forum posters frequently say that Muslims are all terrorists and aren't cleaning up their own mess.
When they try, they get murdered and nobody here notices.
Maybe they noticed Sadat, but that was it.
I posted some stories about these writers on another thread.
