Earlier this month, the city of Berkeley, California voted on a referendum, known as Measure Q, which would have instructed the local police department to make enforcement of prostitution laws its lowest priority. The measure was defeated by a nearly 2:1 margin earlier this month -- and this in the bluest city in one of the bluest states.
That's one of the big conundrums facing all "sextivists": much of what they want to achieve, here in the US and around the world, falls well outside the realm of what the American people support, let alone wish to pay for. For the most part, the AIDS Establishment gets away with publishing documents such as "Hustling for Health" and "Making Sex Work Safe," because citizens and taxpayers aren't really paying attention to what their moneys are being used for.
Yet there's a deeper question: will the prevalence of AIDS be reduced if this sex-utopia is achieved? Probably not. As was so obvious in Bangkok in July, the social goal of achieving a New Society is far more important to activists than the medical goal of eradicating HIV.

Oh, I thought you meant wives.....
"That's what they do for a living."
ROTFLMAO!
If she considers it work, she married poorly. ;)
In related news, the Clinton library opened. No word yet on whether cigars will be sold in the gift shop.
These people are advocates for slavery and organized crime.
Having the World AIDS Conference in Bangkok is like having the World Anti-Smoking Conference in Lexington, Kentucky! LOL This story shows us one more reason for the United States to withdraw from the United Nations, take over the building (that we built) and use it to replace the WTC.
Or the Alcoholics Anonymous convention in St. Louis and Milwaukee...
Woops, call it a temporary case of dyslexia.
I guess the Berkely police can arrest teachers and civic leaders now!
I think laws against prostitution inhibit freedom. two consenting adults should be able to use their property (their bodies) the way they want to.
I know I am in the minority with this view - but to me Liberty is Liberty. :)
For awhile, there was a cigar vendor in Union Station in DC named "Monica's Cigars." They've since changed their name.
Whoi cares about the laws , the Church ladies and the sanctimonious responders to your post?! Whoring will continue unabated as before (thank goodness.)
Moral Absolutes Ping. Even in Berzerkly, the populace voted against all-but-legalizing prostution. I guess they didn't want prostitutes in droves all over the entire city, with people from all over coming to buy some sex. Gack.
NIMBY?
Let me know if anyone wants on/off this pinglist.
I'm shocked - SHOCKED! - that you are not already here
Speaking just for myself, in a world of radical Islamism, terrorism, war, excessive socialistic taxation, partial-birth abortion, and activist judges, prostitution is WAAAAY friggin' down on the list of my priorities. I would have voted for this Amendment in a heartbeat.
