This goes back to the days of Indians setting their blankets on fire sending smoke signals.

His 13-year-old son Michael stood stunned... How many times are people supposed to be stuned today?
To: Tarpaulin
Let me do the math -
83 incidents and 170,000,000 cell phones in use...
Thamt is a rate of 0.00005%.
How many other products are that safe?

Michael Sathre, who is expected to fully recover from his wounds, was picking his fully charged Verizon LG cell phone off the floor when it exploded by his side. The family chose not to sue and has instead allowed the companies involved and a consumer group to come to their house to study the damage, in the hopes it won't happen to someone else. WHAT!? WTF!? That's Unamerican!
Good for them. Excellent.

"If you're cramming more and more power in a small space, what you're making is a small bomb," said Carl Hilliard, president of the California-based Wireless Consumers Alliance, which has been tracking incidents of cell phone fires and explosions.Uh, no, you are making a small cell phone...

"How many other products are that safe?" String? Cardboard?
To: RebelBanker
That is a rate of 0.00005%.Let's a make a lottery out of it. Cell phone explodes: you win $1,000,000.00.
To: Tarpaulin
I don't know about exploding batteries, but I switched phones because the battery in my old one got pretty darned hot when you were talking on the phone. It was uncomfortable.
My new one just gets slightly warm.

It will. Some Soccer mom in an SUV talking on her cell phone will have a phone blow-out at 80mph and run over several Focus, a Toyota, and an Accord before rolling to a stop in the median.
