VC medal to go under the hammer
The first Victoria Cross to be won by a soldier from Leeds is to go up for auction in London.
The medal was originally won by John Pearson of the 8th Hussars during the Indian Mutiny in 1858.
Despite heavy fire from two sides, Mr Pearson took part in a charge through a rebel camp in Gwalior, where he seized guns from the opposition.
His medal for extreme valour is expected to sell for over £70,000 at the auction on Tuesday.

I saw the headline and thought.."Wow, kerry is finally getting a medal he deserves."
BTTT
"VC medal to go under the hammer"
I am shocked and outraged that a British solider would have accepted a medal from the Viet Cong, and what's worse, would now try to profit from it.
Don't they understand that the VC were the enemies of the United States and of the freedom-loving people of Vietnam? It is despicable to attempt to derive monetary gain from this . . .
What? It's not the Viet Cong? It's the Victoria Cross from the UK? Never mind.
LOL. Great minds think somewhat alike. See #4.
I saw the headline and thought.."Wow, kerry is finally getting a medal he deserves."
For it's Tommy this and Tommy that and chuck'em out the brute, but it's saviour of the nation when the guns begin to shoot.
I saw the headline and thought... hmmm Kerry's dog got a medal too! he probably got that from when he got catapulted off Kerry's boat and landed on the other boat! hmmmm... The Dog Named "VC"
How many won at Roarks drift? 8 or 11?
I think it was 11. I have the book at home..The battl emay have saved the British government, becuase it csme of the heels of the British regiment ..over a thousand..getting wiped out at Islawanda a week or so prior..
Was it 12 or 13 VC's that were awarded at that battle? What else you would like to talk about?
