Europe, Islam's New Front Line: Germany

All Things Considered, November 22, 2004

Tuba Uncar, 21, of Berlin.

“I am integrated. I speak the German language... If you say I should live like Germans do, well, that's not integration. That's assimilation and I don't want that.”

The death of a Dutch filmmaker, at the hands of a suspected Muslim extremist, has Germans anxious that religious unrest will spread to their own country. NPR's Sylvia Poggioli continues a five-part series on Europe as the emerging battlefield in the struggle to define Muslim identity.

Unease about Islamic radicalism was sparked by a German television broadcast in which an imam at a Berlin mosque was secretly filmed calling Germans "unbelievers" who "can only burn in hell." A spokesman for the mosque later asked for the public's forgiveness and said Imam Yakub Tasci spoke in error.

Muslims make up about 4 percent of the German population, but their influence on German society is growing. For example, a German Muslim group won a court battle to impose its own Islamic teaching in Berlin's public schools.

Moderate Muslims are dismayed by the rise of Islamic fundamentalism. Turkish-born Osman Gundojdu, who owns a construction company, says he's furious at fundamentalist radicals who are "abusing Islam... They're preaching against integration. It's up to us to criticize them. We have to respect the society we're living in."

I heard the NPR broadcast of this tonight and it gave me the shivers.

The broadcast was about 10 mins. long - much longer than this article - and one of the issues mentioned was that Germans are conditioned to be so politically correct and non-racist that it is difficult for many to see with open eyes that they are losing their country through a culture war with slimy liars.

Seems to me that these Gastarbeiten should go back to their countries of heritage now. But they don't want to live in back the 6th century? Schadenfreude. Adapt or... well... be honest at least.

Why do I listen to NPR? That's another story.

It's Hilter's lasting legacy. Germans are want to do or say nothing that could label them in any shape or form "Nazi."

Forget religion being the "opium of the masses," we have PC.

Tuba Uncar, 21, of Berlin I am indoctrinated, I speak the German Language .. If you say I should be free and not under the subjugation of men and not have to hide under a tent while walking the German streets, well, that's not independence. Thats freedom and civilization, and my owner does not want me to expierence that for fear I might see him as the domineering slavemaster that he is.

Godless, spiritually empty, nihilistic Europeans are demanding that religious muslims and other immigrants should become more like them? No wonder they are encountering resistance.

So the next war in Germany will have the Muhjadeen in the place of the old SS. What's worse? Being stuck in an oven or having your head cut off? Too bad the Nazis and the Jihadis couldn’t have fought it out. The world would have prospered from that example of mutually assured destruction. If the Germans had one WWII, how do you think they would be waging the war on terror? There is something to think about.

"Why do I listen to NPR?"

Don't feel bad, I listen too. (I even sent them $, made sure they knew it came from a Rightwinger, that I will say.) I'll venture you listen for the same reason I do, they cover topics in greater depth than any other easily acquired news source, especially International News (Sylvia Poggioli is a fave of mine) and stories on the Arts and Culture. It's listen to NPR, subscribe to the Economist (tres expensive!), or search out BBC America if you want to know what's going on in the rest of the World. Even the NY Times s*cks at it, comparatively.

I'm totally 100% addicted to the Brian Lehrer show on WNYC 820 AM from 10-12 M-F. Although he was very in the tank for Kerry, so I really couldn't stand it recently. Then after the election, when I thought it was safe to tune in again, he was doing election fraud in Ohio. (ACK!) He seems to be coming out of it, today was better. The show covers NJ politics better than anyone else I've ever heard, even better than Bob Grant.

Moderate Muslims, good as they might be, are like the enabling wives of child abusing husbands...

"speak out or the evil continues..."

"Moderate Muslims are dismayed by the rise of Islamic fundamentalism."

I recognized this statement as BS a long time ago. The fact that the Islamazazi's have concentrated on Europe is vindication for Dubya and his policies.

Here we go again. Europeans getting themselves into a mess because of their own stupidity.

This seems to happen once every generation.

Are we going to have to pulled their sorry butts out of the fire again?

btw, she is fluent in German too - she spoke on the program.

Way spooky.

The Germans are in a tough spot. Plus most of the ME terror types know that the Germans feel guilty about their past - and they take advantage of that guilt by infiltrating faster & faster.

Berlin has been free only a short time. It is fulfilling its historical destiny of being a showdown city for ideology crush.

Resistance to secularism from a genuine religion would mean preaching and trying to convert by example (martyrdom - not the Muslim version which involves killing others, but the Christian version, which is that of going to your death at the hands of others to witness to the truth).

Islam is a religion where theocracy, that is, the rule of secular society by religious authorities, is a fundamental part of its teachings. Christianity has always had a division between the State and the Church (render unto Caesar), and many battles were fought over this, particularly between the Catholic Church and the State of whatever country it was present in.

But Islam wants to take over. Don't be fooled. You're not going to like the burkha, the homosexual men, the blind loyalty to your local mullah, etc.

I agree with the girl that you can't assimilate a group into a society. Every time that the Europeans have tried to do so it ends out with at least some dire consequences. They need to improve their intelligence and immigration laws if it's not to late, and clamp down on the radical elements either throwing them in jails for hate crimes or kicking them out of the country. The more they try to force people to become secular Germans the more they will radicalize their Muslim population.

"The death of a Dutch filmmaker, at the hands of a suspected Muslim extremist, has Germans anxious that religious unrest will spread to their own country."

Why are they bothering to get anxious at this point? Have they had some kind of epiphany or something?

"...he's furious at fundamentalist radicals who are 'abusing Islam'..."

He meant to say "revealing Islam".

"An imam at a Berlin mosque was secretly filmed calling Germans 'unbelievers' who 'can only burn in hell.' A spokesman for the mosque later asked for the public's forgiveness and said (the) Imam...spoke in error."

The Imam did not speak in error. This is Islamic doctrine. They're just sorry that he got caught on secret film.

as far as the war against islam is concerned the "moderate" muslims are no less dangerous that the "extremists." they are all on the other side and this is war.

We may have to depacify the Germans in the near future. I believe there are decent Muslims who are good productive citizens in Europe, but a significant number are enabling, supporting and harboring the extremists. I think we will see the apex of Muslim immigration to Europe soon (save France).

Thank goodness that Bush was reelected, his hardline against terrorism is encouraging reform-minded Muslims to challenge the radicals in their homelands, it's a start in the right direction. And, Bush's leadership will embolden the right in Europe, who are more realistic about immigration policy. But we'll see more violence.

That ought to wake the natives up, maybe.

germany and all of Western Europe will become a ISlamic sewer in a few decades.

The only countries in Western Europe who may fight are Austria (they fought the Muslims in 1683 at Vienna), maybe the Italians, Swiss, Danes and Norwegians.

England is a lost cause along with France, Belgium, Spain, Sweden and probably Germany.

The Eastern Europeans like the Poles will not put of with the Muslims sh*t. The Poles saved Europe from Islam in 1683 thanks to King Jan Sobieski and his Polish Hussar calvary.
