NEW YORK Fox will be the new television home of the Bowl Championship Series.
The network and the B-C-S announced a four-year, 80 (m) million dollar deal today that gives Fox the broadcast rights to the Fiesta, Orange and Sugar bowls from 2007-to-2010 and the national title game from 2007-to-2009.
A-B-C has held the broadcast rights to the B-C-S since college football's major conferences implemented the system to crown a national champion in 1998.
A-B-C withdrew from the bidding last week, with network officials saying they were unhappy with the new B-C-S structure, which added a fifth game. Starting with the 2006 season, the national title game will be played at the site of either the Fiesta, Orange, Sugar and Rose bowls the week after those games are played.
The new structure would allow greater access to the B-C-S and increase the number of teams involved from eight to 10.
Gerado with color for the Fiesta Bowl..
That's what I prefer... I was just trying to point out that if they're going to add one game, that they make it a real national championship instead of increasing the BCS field to 10 teams (and by so doing, add another "who cares?" BCS bowl game).
If they both win out, one or both will be in a BCS Bowl, bank on it.
Utah #6, Boise State #7 -- both undefeated. They will make bowl games, and the BCS will be hard-pressed to not put them in BCS bowls.
Utah more than deserves to be in a bowl game. I'm saying the shenanigans that went on in the BCS last year completely shut out good teams that more than deserved to be in at least a bowl game, but weren't.
80 MILLION????????????, Is this correct? Seems cheap to me. Can I bid on it?
$80,000,001
You and I know they'll make a bowl appearance, but we're not the ones who decide it, a bank of computers do.
Just scrap all but two games and make every team work harder to get into at least one. It's complete BS having every bowl game populated by teams in the ACC and SEC.
Just play the damn thing on the field will ya

The BCS needs to go away. Div 1 Football is the only college sport that doesn't have a playoff system. The only way a National Champion will have legitimacy will be if the champs from each conference, and lets say 4 at large teams play it out on the field. Untill then the BCS stands for Big Crock of S#@t!!!
They talked the Peach Bowl into playing on the 25th one year - they couldn't even give the tickets away. There is a reason that they have played the Christmas day games in Hawaii the last few years.
Well, those rankings (Utah #6 and BSU #7) are the current BCS standings. Actually, it's more of a human decision than a computer decision. 6 of the 8 spots automatically go to major conference winners, with two at-large spots. The at large can be pulled from any teams in the top BCS 12, though the #1 and #2 teams, regardless of conference affiliation, will always play in the BCS championship game.
That means, this year, the automatic bids will be (assuming the favorites win out):
The current BCS standing are (potential at-large teams highlighted):
That's standard for a press release that is intended to be read by an announcer. That way, they say (for example) "ess cee cee" rather than "seck" for "SEC".
Instead of radio or television announcers saying "seck", they will know that it is supposed to be pronounced "ess eee cee" or "bee cee ess" instead of "Bics". The Associated Press is also known to use this in their wire stories to media outlets.
Standings and polls mean nothing to the BCS even though they have them, they're in the interest to get high TV ratings and lots of $$$.
Honestly, I think the real weakness (ok, one of many of the real weaknesses) in the current system is the automatic berths given to the major conference winners. There's no way Michigan, Virginia Tech, and whomever the Big East winner will be all deserve BCS spots over teams like Cal, Texas, Utah, BSU, etc.
Every automatic bid team in that list are the same teams TV networks like CBS, or ESPN, or ABC love to showcase nationwide. That should come as no surprise to anyone.
The old bowls need to keep the old tradition. So I suggest we build a top notch stadium in Vegas and hold the college superbowl in Las Vegas. We will probaly build a baseball stadium soon anyway. Might as well make it for baseball and football.
