NEW YORK Fox will be the new television home of the Bowl Championship Series.
The network and the B-C-S announced a four-year, 80 (m) million dollar deal today that gives Fox the broadcast rights to the Fiesta, Orange and Sugar bowls from 2007-to-2010 and the national title game from 2007-to-2009.
A-B-C has held the broadcast rights to the B-C-S since college football's major conferences implemented the system to crown a national champion in 1998.
A-B-C withdrew from the bidding last week, with network officials saying they were unhappy with the new B-C-S structure, which added a fifth game. Starting with the 2006 season, the national title game will be played at the site of either the Fiesta, Orange, Sugar and Rose bowls the week after those games are played.
The new structure would allow greater access to the B-C-S and increase the number of teams involved from eight to 10.
Oh great. Probably no more Keith Jackson announcing, either. On FOX we'll probably get some runner-ups from Reality shows.
Joe Buck calling BCS games?
The beginning of the end for the BCS I think. ABC spent all that money developing the concept, and it is still controversial. So, they fold up their tents and move the money to Nascar.
I also expect ESPN to pull out of some of those lame third tier bowl games
How's this... rather than increase the number of teams to 10, have #1 play #4 and have #2 play #3 with the winners facing off in a title game the following week.
Nah... It makes to much sense...
Be still my heart.
Gee, bowl games. What excitement.
At least it will not be on NBC...they are completely incompetent in all phases of sports broadcasting and should be banned from any such contracts indefinitely.
But what about #5? </whining>
I bet Pasadena loves the BCS....
You will have the parade on New Years Day, and the game on Jan 8th.
Holy half attendance, batman.
Let's hope not!
Because that would screw over Utah and Boise State. :-)
Hey, I'd rather see a 3-4 round playoff myself, but if you're going to add a 5th BCS game, at least do it this way so you don't have the same situation as the last two years, where there is controversy over the #1-3 spots. Of course, you'll still have controversy for the #4-5, but at least the two best teams should still meet up in the championship.
I could be wrong, and if I am, please be gentle.
Cotton Bowl 12/25 - #4 vs #5
Gator Bowl 12/25 - #3 vs #6
Peach Bowl 12/25 - #2 vs #7
Sugar Bowl 12/25 - #1 vs #8
Rose Bowl 1/1 - Gator Winner vs Peach Winner
Fiesta Bowl 1/1 - Cotton Winner vs Sugar Winner
Orange Bowl 1/8 - National Championship
I think the fallout from last weeks MNF opening intro has something to do with this. Congratulations ABC, go join NBC in the incompetancy camp.
Bill O'Reilly will be doing color for the Bowl Games.
I will wager Utah and BSU don't even make a bowl game this year. They're hampered with the fact they aren't in the SEC and ACC.
