The Kennedy family is upset by the video game A Scottish firm has been criticised by the family of John F Kennedy for producing a game which recreates the president's assassination in Dallas. "JFK Reloaded" was released on Monday to coincide with the 41st anniversary of the president's assassination.
David Smith, a spokesman for Senator Ted Kennedy, the brother of JFK, said the PC-based game was "despicable".
A spokesman for Traffic Games said it was encouraging youngsters to take an interest in history.
The Stirling-based company argued that the game was aimed at disproving theories that a conspiracy, rather than lone gunman Lee Harvey Oswald, was responsible for the assassination.
The creators said they had written to Senator Kennedy before the release of the game, which allows players to simulate the shooting.
Kirk Ewing, company managing director and a former documentary film maker, said he understood that some people would be horrified at the game but went on: "We have an enormous respect for the Kennedy family.
One of the scenes recreated by the game "What we are hoping to do is re-ignite people's passion for history. This is a unique insight into the assassination. We think there's a whole generation of people who have no experience of the Kennedy assassination.
"The game is effectively a reconstruction of the event using video game technology.
"I hasten to add that we don't regard it as a video game because there's no imagination been used to create the scene."
Mr Ewing said: "It's been covered in every kind of media so far, whether in books or movies, so what we've done is really just to extend that into the interactive media."
"What we are hoping to do is re-ignite people's passion for history."
that's rich, what a moron
The game is aimed at making money.
Pure and simple.

This is one time I agree with Teddy.
Heh, heh, heh, the DUmmies are going bananas over this, considering the controversial theme, and all; so I propose a solution: How about "Driving Ted/Drowning Mary Jo" compromise?
If the games object was to take shots at Bush the porcine senator from Mass would be first on line to buy one-
The game is skewed to "prove" that the Warren Comission lied, and that Oswald couldn't have killed Kennedy. They did this purposely; no simple model can simulate the physics involved, certainly not on a commercial desktop computer.
Do we have any of those tomahawk missles left?

Heard the news while studying in Germany. AFN news: 'Connoly and Kennedy have been shot.' I thought who is Connoly. Can't be Pres Kennedy or they would have given his name first.
How about a Teddy Kennedy driving game?
These news outlets sure have been busy providing it with free publicity.
Thought someone already created a game about John Flipflop Kerry. Oh well.
/sarcasm
If this game was based upon assassinating President Bush in any one of the many foreign capitols he might travel to or through, there would be indignant "tut-tuts" about "it's only a game, and it allows those who are upset with the Bush Administration to work out their frustrations in a non-violent manner."
But being that it is JFK, they spare no effort in condemning the creators and marketeers of the game.
If it were Bush in the crosshairs, they would be gleefully buying it for all their friends this holiday season.
Gee, think of the market here. We can have people retracing the shots of Sirhan Sirhan and the guy(s) who shot Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and maybe even putting Teddy Kennedy behind the wheel on the bridge at Chappaquidick or being Mary Jo on the back seat of the vehicle.
