I would take Satan if he would make even mere promises too on this matter.

You're not getting the point:

She's not making any promises. She's mouthing content-free platitudes. Didn't you learn anything in the 1990's?

This sounds like the Middle Tax Cut that was promised by someone who shall be nameless...

Angkor, JFK's screen name should be enough of a give away.

No, I think you aren't getting the point here, which is, politicians are tools. When one makes noises on a particular issue that you are for, you are doing yourself a dis-service if you do not respond positively.

By doing so, the rest of the tools in the shed will take notice, and before long, they ALL support the issue that you are for. At that point, you can discard the original tool and go on to other issues.

Just because the tool is called Hillary is immaterial, if you are concerned about illegal immigration, send her a letter saying that you support her 'position', even if you know she is lying.

The expectation that politicians of any stripe are anything more than politicians is giving them too much credit. Use them and discard them as they support or fail to support your own desires and interests. Thats what they are used for, nothing more, nothing less.

I agree, Hitlery has a lock.

The Rat party as a whole did not fight the last campaign as a "winning is the most important thing" fight, Bush hatred was not electable. The Clintons still have control of the party because Frenchy lost, and Hil will run.

But she is smart enough to say what the people want to hear. She might not do a dam thing once elected but she will say anything to get elected

And what does it tell you that Hilliary is willing to talk about immigration? She is evil, but she gets it that people are fed up. It is pure Clintonism to talk one way and do something else completely. I don't think, though, she could keep her liberal base by going right on immigration. But I am very, very worried about the 3rd party scenario you describe -- some wealthy guy (possibly put up by the Clintons, don't put it past them) does a Perot on immigration, Clinton keeps her base and becomes president. The Clintons will do anything to get the presidency back, and the GOP is just completely, hopelessly, annoyingly stupid on this issue.

Hillary will win a lot of support on this issue. Dumb is ain't, could it be that the Democrats are waking up? One can only hope, Bush in his pandering to illegals, in encougaging illegls to flood in the country might be sinking the GOP ship of state.

"Get tough on immigration themselves. Wow, what a concept!"

Yeah, really. We got plenty of problems with illegals in the Blue states too, so I don't really understand her premise.

This power mad harridan is NOT going to become President. I'm pretty sure I'll be able to line up an additional voter or two easily, just to vote against her.

Hey, the Republicans can adopt a real simple way of defeating this little strategy: Get tough on immigration themselves. Wow, what a concept!

Actually I think the President is doing a very smart thing for several reason.

1. It is going to be much easier to control borders from terrorists if people who want to work enter legally. That way their background is going to be checked before they get visas. With people jumping borders illegally for work, you are also potentially getting terrorists to do the same thing.
2. It is going to be good for economy. These people come here with nothing, it means they'll have to buy everything, from houses to cars and appliances. And, also, with cheaper labor within the US, the less need to outsource to other countries. Whatever they earn they'll spend it here.
3. It is good for Republican party. I vacation in Yucatan, Mexico often, and I like the people there. They are family oriented, conservative and Catholic.
4. All projections show, with legal or illegal immigration, that Hispanic population will grow rapidly within USA. I think it is good move from Republican Party to make friends with potential voters.

Yeah I agree. Anyone with an ounce of brains ought to see Hillarys' latest move for what it is. But I don't CARE who brings illegal immigration/border control to the forefront in public debate. It's something that's long overdue and apparently it's something this "conservative" President and the neo-cons who've hijacked the Republican party can't quite see. Outrage.

So let Hillary bring it on.....the more light you shine on a cockroach the quicker it scurrys away.

1. It is going to be much easier to control borders from terrorists if people who want to work enter legally.

I could buy that argument if he was actually calling for some real border security first. But since he's doing essentially nothing in that department (despite his claims), the whole thing comes across as rather disingenuous on his part.

In addition, he's making the border situation worse by touting his amnesty proposals. It gives Mexicans even more of an incentive to come here if they think they can get in before any amnesty goes into effect.

2. It is going to be good for economy. These people come here with nothing, it means they'll have to buy everything, from houses to cars and appliances. And, also, with cheaper labor within the US, the less need to outsource to other countries. Whatever they earn they'll spend it here.

I won't dispute most of that (though outsourcing can also be combatted in other ways). Congressman Tancredo is also proposing a guest worker program. But he's certainly not proposing amnesty for illegal aliens.

3. It is good for Republican party. I vacation in Yucatan, Mexico often, and I like the people there. They are family oriented, conservative and Catholic.

Except they aren't the ones who are trying to get into the U.S.

4. All projections show, with legal or illegal immigration, that Hispanic population will grow rapidly within USA. I think it is good move from Republican Party to make friends with potential voters.

But most Hispanics have indicated support for tighter immigration controls.

It's a done deal.

The scary part is that Arnold is talking about doing a Perot unless the Repubelickins cave in to an amendment.

Imagine having our choice of fascists.

So, it begins. I've been warning about this illegal invasion for years and railed against Clinton for his failure to deal with it. I know that won't make the law breaking cheerleaders happy, but they can do a search to find my posts from years ago. Funny, most of them agreed with me then. Hillary will do whatever it takes to get elected. And this just might do it. But those who use slave labor and take advantage of disadvantaged 3rd world people will do so as long as it makes them a dollar, they could care less what happens to this country. They are so inhumane that they don't care how many of them die in the desert, or packed in coyote vehicles as long as they can get a cheap roof. THEN they complain about the work ethic of Americans. Pot meet Kettle.

Dane - "Angkor, JFK's screen name should be enough of a give away."

Heheh, ummm, a liberal in JFK's day would be more conservative than a neo-con of today.

Just think of it, the issues then and all.

Shoot, if the Republicans went with the Democratic platform of 1960, I'd be as peachy as a boal of punch, but that would be far too much to the right of the Republicans of today, no?

This is all about timing. Republicans/Conservatives are getting pissed (rightfully so) over Bush's immigration program now. She knew this was happening at this point a looooonnnnngggg time ago and timed her media blitz on immigration just right. She's getting red staters right now when they are hot and bothered over the border issues w/ the administration, and frankly GWB is making it pretty easy for her.
