I don't think the killer would have faired so well at the club I belong to. I hope he gets toasted.

The suspect was ``sniping'' at the victims with a SKS assault-style rifle

I read about this on a hunting board yesterday. At no point (and even at the new sources cited there) did I see anything about this "SKS assault-style rifle". Of course this will get major media play - not because the guy was a luny hot-head, but because he used a so-called "assault rifle". After all, there is no legitimate purpose for owning one of those evil "assault rifles". This incident has nothing do do with what style of rifle he used, it's that he was a luny in someone else's deer stand who decided to murder other hunters over the whole thing. He deserves the death penalty. Must be another attempt to re-open the "Assault Weapon Ban" coming up soon. This could then be a trophy case to use in their push. It's just unfortunate that none of these other hunters had the balls (and the shooting ability) to take this punk out when he started blasting. I would take one scoped deer rifle over an SKS any day. From 200 yds, the deer rifle has a far greater advantage. And this is all from someone who has carried a SKS while deer hunting. It's not my primary, but it sure is a lot more flexible when walking out a thicket/heavy cover. My .270 with big scope just doesn't cut it in those conditions.

No mention that the perp is a Hmong tribesman imported from Viet Nam to live on welfare.

If he'd only hunted by crawling on his stomach, al la John Kerry, this never would have happened.

The most likely outcome from this murderous rampage is that the University of Wisconsin-Madison will endow a Chai Vang Chair. After all, Chai is just a misunderstood young man who has his whole life ahead of him. We need to understand his inner anguish and pain. Society has not been kind to Chai, and even if he has lashed out at his societal oppressors, that's no reason to turn our backs on this gentle creature of God!

Anticipate the entire campus to erupt in Free Chai rallies. He'll be on Larry King with Mark Geragos defending. France will offer him free medical care. Canada will offer safe haven from extradition if he can just be slipped across the border!

I smell movie rights with Oliver Stone. A "Chai for Governor movement will break out. Alex Baldwin and Susan Sarandon will pledge to move to France if Chai isn't released!

I think you get the picture. Personally, I'd be more than happy to pull the switch and fry him to a golden brown.

For the curious, and "Non Assault Rifle Aware" amongst you, this is what an SKS looks like.

Unless you alter the magazine with an aftermarket part (which is QUITE easy to do!), it holds 10 rounds of 7.62 x 39mm Russian cartridges. It's roughly equivalent to the Winchester .30-30.

I found a guy in my deer stand in rural Tennessee one morning. The stand is in the middle of six acres I bought for hunting and when I asked the guy why he was there he told me it was his property. I replied "then why have I been paying taxes on it for ten years?". He then said "I guess you want me to move huh?". Duh! A few days later I was sitting in the stand when a bullet came whizzing by my head. I could see the guy who took the shot on a ridge a few hundred yards away. This was no mistake, he was shooting at me! I looked like a 200 squirrel sliding down that tree.

Remarkable story. That's a LOT of casualties, and fatalities, given the nature of the situation.

Something set this guy off, and he apparently didn't stop until there was nothing left to shoot.

Lots of questions; What was the dispute; Why didn't the victims shoot back, or did they try?; Who was the shooter - illegal alien or criminal history, or just Joe Sixpack having a bad day?; Is the shooter going to claim self defense, etc, was he threatened?

In any case, a tragedy all around.

The guy was in one of their tree stands which tells me he shot first. He would be an easy target for someone on the ground if they already knew where he was and were confronting him.He would have limited movement. Also,he would have to climb down to escape which would have given them more time to take him out.

I figure they confronted him from a distance. He shot them both from his elevated position before they got close to him. They were wounded, but he didn't finish them off,so he climbed down at that point,in which they were probably seeking cover to radio for help.He then tried to escape. At some point he must have stopped, being lost.He saw others coming close and fired on them. Not knowing if they were part of the hunting party or not.I think he was just shooting anyone he saw at this point. This would explain why the first two hunter were only wounded. He didn't stick around to finish them and had no idea others were coming to their aid,IF,as reported he doesn't speak english.

Luckily, for the last two hunters he encountered,he was out of ammo or they'd be dead too.He had no idea if they were looking for him or not.

Pure speculation on my part, but the only way I can see someone taking out 5 armed people, wounding 3,and not getting shot in the process.

A dispute among deer hunters over a tree stand in northwestern Wisconsin erupted Sunday in a series of shootings that left five people dead and three others injured, officials said.

When he emerged from the woods, a Department of Natural Resources officer recognized the deer license on his back

A real tragedy! ...but's was this about Wisconsin hunters having to wear a deer license on their backs?

We've been having "problems" for years with Hmong Immigrants grasping concepts like Bag Limits,Seasons,Slot sizes for fish,Game birds vs. songbirds,Private Property, etc. here in Eastern Minnesota and Wisconsin.

If you hear a news story about a bowhunter being shot during the fall,95% of the time it is a Hmong out squirrel hunting.(Apparently,In their culture, hunting means blindly blasting away at anything in the trees whether they've identified it or not.)

The other one Game Wardens find occasional is the trunk full of song birds or the 30 gallon garbage can full of Sunfish and only two guys fishing.

Their standard response has always been to claim ignorange of the law or local customs and then to accuse people of racism.
