We won't be seeing any of the border-wedgies come to condemn this supposed 'alien enemy invader of America,' for Sgt. Peralta was a Mexican citizen.

Marine's death in Fallujah adds to their losses

By Caitlin Rother
UNION-TRIBUNE STAFF WRITER

November 21, 2004

NELVIN CEPEDA / Union-Tribune
Rosa Maria Peralta sat on her son's bed next to a photo of him. Marine Sgt. Rafael Peralta, 25, was killed Monday in Fallujah, Iraq. His fiancee died after an auto accident in December 2003, and his father was killed on the job three years ago.
Before going to bed Nov. 6, Marine Corps Sgt. Rafael Peralta sat down in Fallujah, Iraq, and wrote his first and last letters to his little brother and youngest sister.

"Tomorrow, at 19:00 hours (7 p.m.), we are going to declare war in the holy city of Fallujah," Peralta wrote to Ricardo, 14. "We are going to defeat the insurgents. Watch the news, it's going to be all over. Be proud of me, bro, I'm going to make history and do something that I always wanted to do."

The two white envelopes came in the mail Tuesday, the day after Peralta's family learned the 25-year-old Marine had died in battle. Shot in the chest and wounded in the head from bomb shrapnel, he died Monday on the way to a field hospital in Anbar province.

News that a young man has fallen in combat is always hard for relatives to take, but Peralta's passing hit his family especially hard. They were stunned by the death of his father in a freak accident three years ago.

Then the mother of Peralta's fiancee died on the eve of the couple's wedding day, and Maritca died days later from injuries in a truck accident.

And now this.

Technically, and from the point of view of the Mexican goverment. But he was an American, and a citizen of the "Home of the Brave".

Vaya con Dios, Sgt. Peralta. I am proud that you were my countryman.

Semper Fi!

"It's stuff you hear about in boot camp, about World War II and Tarawa Marines
who won the Medal of Honor,"

and about Army guys in WWII Europe:
http://www.goforbroke.org/history/history_historical_medal_munemori.asp

The local National Guard Armory in West Los Angeles has a "Sadao Munemori" Hall.

Who says they don't make 'em like they used to?

Are you truly incapable of discerning between attacks on overall immigration policy and views of immigrants themselves?

You know, it is a trademark tactic of the Left to brand someone as 'anti-immigrant' for merely voicing concern or objection to immigration policy. Its the same as calling someone racist or anti-civil rights for opposing racial preferences or quotas. Its completely bogus, but effective for the Left because it allows them to sidestep a debate over the actual merits of the issue.

Polls consistently show a majority or plurality of Americans opposed to giving amnesty, drivers licenses, and in-state tuition to illegal aliens, and in support of reducing legal immigration (notice use of the word "reduce" instead of "end" or "ban"). Since these are the maintream views that will get one reflexively branded as anti-immigrant, or "UberKonservative nativist" then I guess you think most Americans are such.

But as to this Marine; clearly he was a great man, and he should be honored for his bravery, service, and sacrifice. But to use his example in the argument over immigration policy invites examples of 'bad' immigrants who come here and become criminals.

That's why its best to look at the overall policy and its effects on the nation as a whole.

Thank you for sharing this story! Why, oh why, isn't this news item blazing in the headlines? Shame on the any of the MSM outlets who did not even bother to mention Sgt. Rafael Peralta -- a real hero.
