Holy crap! You said what I've always felt about ghettos outside of NYC -- the way they look suburban. It's the same thing in LA! It's weird.

I have a picture of my dad shopping in downtown Newark with my grandmother when I was a kid. Amazing to see all the department stores and theatres in what eventually became a war zone in 1967. Things have improved over the past few years.
I remember neighbors of mine on Long Island telling me how they used to go shopping in Jamaica until Green Acres was built.

Except that ole Spike grew up in Carroll Gardens and went to St. Anne's...

I didn't discover Kings Plaza till my friends started to drive. I had never seen a really big mall before that. You could fit 3 Green Acres in it!

I was at Kings Plaza back in February. An aging mall, racially mixed (blacks, Latinos, Asians and Russians) clientele, not worth a special stop. That is why so many Brooklynites drive to Jersey to shop.
Shouldn't we be talking about Churches?

Nope, it's driving me crazy now. It was a 5 and 10, like Woolworths.

Green Acres was nice, but you had to have a car to get there if you lived in Queens. Most families where I grew up in Queens didn't have cars.

Well, if there's not going to be anymore NYC trivia, then I'm getting back to work...this has been fun. Thanks!

Green Acres was nice, until the bloods and crips took it over in the late 80s/early 90s. I used to love going to Luca Pizza at the food court there.

My mom stopped shopping there where they had that shoot out in the movie theater.
