It was about 1:00 a.m. when our bus pulled in from the airport.

As I understand it, bringing in the new recruits at that kind of late/early hour is routine. Is that true? Dont they ever for the new ones to arrive at a base somewhere around lunchtime or some more reasonable hour?

I don't know if it was routine or not. As I remember, we flew from my home town to a sort of military hub, and from there to Dallas, and from there to San Antonio. It was pretty much an all day (and night) thing. I do remember that they let us sleep in the following morning.

Blue, you will also enjoy your free day in SA. Don't miss the River Walk (Rivah Walk, as it is known there) and the Alamo. I don't know if you have ever seen the Alamo, but it was somewhat disappointing to me (although not as much so as it was for the Americans who fought there) because it is so small and surrounded by high buildings, city buses, etc. But it is still a must-see.

Best wishes!

I believe it is. I know we pulled in to Lackland at zero dark thirty when I entered basic.

The TI said the reason was to confuse the rainbows and pickles if they try to escape! LOL!
