The President Rescues Own Bodyguard
Today's News | November 21, 2004 | El Oviedo

Posted on 11/21/2004 1:08:14 PM PST by El Oviedo

Today all over the world, the President of the United States, the most powerful man in the entire world came to the aid of his bodyguard.

Yahoo news! AFP - Reuters - AP described the incident "the President in the thick of the pushing and shoving match, he reached into the group and pulled Agent Nick Trotta out by the lapel and into the dinner".

A conspicuously brave and a very simple act - perhaps he muttered (in Spanish) to the Chilean guards that Nick Trotta, the man they are trying to manhandle was with him. A few words and they impressively listened. I don't know what he said and the language he used but in all probability he told them - "He is with me." Very short, very calm, uttered with power, strength and authority.

That power, that strength, that authority was televised, broadcast, discussed all over the world as nations watched with admiration and awe while the Europeans and liberals at home watched with ghoulish envy and revengeful anger. Why does he deserve all the credit?

Fox News described the incident "Bush the Brave." Reuters via Yahoo! News headlined with Bush Free Secret Service Agent from Chile Guards. AP broadcast Bush Comes to Aid of Secret Service Agent. The Denver Channel featured Bush Steps in Resolve Secret Service Scuffle. The Manila Times titled their paper Bush rescues Secret Service Agent; while The Times of India bannered Bush Stepped into the Middle of a Confrontation.

Yet those Chilean Security Guards ignoring their lesson, initiated another fracas. As a result the formal state dinner was scrapped and Bush elected for a much smaller gathering with his Chilean host.

To the rescued Nick Trotta, it would take months perhaps when his friends would stop teasing him for what had happened. If he has children going to school, Monday would be the day to be dreaded.

But in all seriousness, this incident showed the person, the individual, the leader, that Americans elected for another 4 years. A down-to-earth ruler who cares for his fellow man.

My President.

"we all deserve to bask in this example of the sort of strong, brave human being we worked to elect to a second term."

Don’t forget that our President was once an F-102 pilot. The F-102 was probably the most unforgiving and difficult to fly jet fighters the USAF ever had in its inventory. To even get near one of those things was dangerous and to fly one took tremendous courage. Those who really knew the aircraft believed that an F-102 pilot had to carry his “cojones” around in a wheelbarrow, and that still describes our President.

No argument. However, the media has totally ignored this aspect of Dubya's service and chosen instead to ask incessantly nit-picking rhetorical questions about a few months where his records don't give second-by-second accounts of his location.

The pendulum may be swinging on the coverage of the POTUS. Tonight I heard Mara Liasson say that for years the Democrats gloried in the divisions in the Bush Cabinet and now they are complaining that he has loyalists in the Cabinet. She pronounced it ridiculous.

I am just glad to see Dubya continue to be himself. As an honest, brave, competent man, the world is going to just have to accept that he is POTUS for another 4 years while we all know he is the best person for the job. Can anyone imagine any other politician behaving in such a forthright manner in this situation? I can't think of one, unfortunately.

We are so lucky! I thank every one of us who worked their butts off for this man's re-election.

This is new information ie., the agents name and a personal touch.

The agent's name and a link to a biography of him and his career appeared much earlier than this article, on another thread. Anything else? P.S. I too enjoy having a take charge, loyal president.

Well, that's a good description, too. However, I think he looked like a dead dork 35 years ago according to the films of him from that time. I don't remember him from those times. I just think there is something European about him, you know, of the "social elite", too good for the rest of us "folks."

I won't argue with that one. The Swift Boat Veterans really nailed him, didn't they? After I saw those news clips of him speaking before the Senate hearings upon coming back from Viet Nam, I wanted him tried for treason! How dare he! I don't know how I missed that in my youth. Two of my class mates died over there.

I tried to search for videos in the entire web but it appears the only ones available are those from the news organizations.

Let's wait for Rush. I hope he will have some anecdote for this.

I believe that this story is not only one of the kind but for all to read and hear.

I don't know about you but if I like a story, I try to read it more than once. For this story, it makes me and many others more proud to be an American.

I am quite sure that there are many other traits that My President have - but this one tops them all.

Believe me there will be a spot in his Presidential Library devoted to this.

Perhaps, but I said in my story, the few words that he spoke to that unruly crowd made them freeze, stop and listen. To me that exhibits the use of POWER in a very sensible way.

Even John Wayne could not have done better.

An insignificent incident, within a small country, remedied by a giant of a MAN, becomes folklore and legend.

I always to that, but as I said - I just want to share my emotions.

If I was wrong, I apologize.

Thanks - I used to be a Kennedy Democrat. I changed my mind when Carter became President. I was in Iran (1972 - 1976) as a government employee so I know the ground that the Captives treaded.

His failure to do act - in my opinion started terrorism as we know today.

Did you know that the students that invaded our embassy planned to stay there a few days - 1 week the most. Had we shown our determination before the week is over, I might still be a democrat today, God forbid.

Just kidding. With the commies and socialists running the Democratic party today, I would have changed my mind during Clinton.

No need to apologize, my friend. My comments were directed not at you, but at those who always feel the need to criticize someone for posting a topic for the second time. See post #2. I think my sarcasm was a little off target.

Sometimes it is good for a topic to be posted again, as a new group of people get to see it. Thank you.

NYT headline: President fails to get clearance for SS agent ahead of time."

You're close, but their real spin turns out to be worse: Security Dispute Dulls Luster of Bush's Trip to Chile.

Looking at the pictures of the President reaching through the tight crowd I am not sure how he was able to accomplish freeing the SS man from them so easily. It appears from all of the pictures that I have looked at the crowd was not even aware that the President was actually there. I really think a miracle took place and Angels helped him accomplish this. They may even have blocked people from seeing the President. Nobody is looking at the President in any of the pictures I have seen of this incident. People would have natually looked at who ever rescued the SS man from the obvious tight situation. Can you imagine being assigned to the President as an Angel and protecting him and helping him in this situation? He stepped up to the plate and the LORD was there to help him accomplish this brave feat.
